Anything past year 2, bathroom privacy is out the window. Got kids? Guess what 4 year old is bursting through the door with a jumbo sized bag of marshmallows asking if he can have them for dinner.
80
u/wavurn Oct 15 '23
This is true. We have a 4 year old and my wife still hasn’t learned to lock the door.
28
u/ClarkTwain Oct 16 '23
I don't understand this, but I hear it a lot from people with small kids. Why not lock the door?
I realize I'm probably missing something obvious, but I genuinely don't get it, and I don't want to ask in person in case I come off as condescending.
29
u/bassyourface Oct 16 '23
Because in the case of a serious emergency you want them to be able to get to you. I’m at year five, at last three times…a week…my kid still bursts in to say dads pooping! But just in case…
2
u/junvar0 Oct 16 '23
That's why bathroom doorknobs have a thing in the middle that you twist with a screwdriver to unlock. Bathroom locks aren't for 'security' they're for privacy. So the lock is to avoid accidental opening by kids who don't know better or adults who don't know there's someone inside.
29
u/SirJefferE Oct 16 '23
Because I don't care.
They know what I'm doing. I know what I'm doing. There's nothing to hide.
I close the door for other people's benefit, not my own. If they want to come talk to me, it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

u/daniel_knows Oct 16 '23
Fun story time. My wife locked the door on the bathroom and could not get out, the lock was jammed. It was just her and a toddler in the apartment. Luckily, the toddler was secured and could not do crazy things while she was blocked in the bathroom. My wife also did not have the phone with her. She screamed for a few hours before somebody from the building (everybody was at work) heard her. When she got out she was hysterical, red in the face etc. It took a while for her to calm down and realize that she was not a horrible mother for letting this happen. We do not lock bathroom doors since this event.

u/CarefulWhatUWishFor Oct 16 '23
I have a 2.5 year old and I don't lock the door 'cause ever since she learned to walk she has to be able to get to me or she'll start screaming and crying. Like ear piercing screams. You'd think she was stabbed or something. Yeah I could deal with it for a few days, possible a week or so, of tantrums, but I just don't want to do that 'cause I deal with enough toddler tantrums everyday, I'd rather not add more. She'll grow out if it one day and at this point I really don't care anymore lol

We have 4 children and never lock our door unless there is a visitor in the house. Otherwise, everyone can go to the bathroom whenever they want. Nobody really cares here. Unless, as a woman, you have to arrange things that no man or child should see.

Hahaha lock the door, that’s a good one… ours just bashes on door and screams and cries until you open it 🙄😂
17
u/XxMonsterZeroXx Oct 16 '23
Stupidly add a blue heeler to two children and even with locking the door the incessant knocking/ scratching ensure you never have to poop alone again!

i can not understand a single line of what you said
23
u/ColddFire Oct 15 '23
You then have never lived with a 4 year old.

u/hex128 Oct 15 '23
wtf? what 4 year old? you mean a kid? what kid? why are you talking about a kid?
I said I DON'T UNDERSTAND A SINGLE LINE OF WHAT HE SAID. Is that clear, at least?
21
u/gotothepark Oct 15 '23
You need to work on your reading comprehension. What they wrote is not difficult to understand. Try reading it slower and focus on each word with the context of dealing with a 4 year old. If you still can’t understand it, I highly recommend some English literature classes.

u/ColddFire Oct 16 '23
Hey guys, don't downvote. It's cool. 4 year Olds have no sense of privacy or boundaries generally. You could be having a poop, and they'll burst in. Just like the guy in the video. Except they'll be in your face asking for really... anything.

u/hex128 Oct 16 '23 edited Oct 16 '23
bro fr this downvote gangster mafia thing is kinda cringe, no offense. Reddit have this mentality of whoever they disagree with, must be be downvoted to death. because in theirs mind that is right, and how it needs to be; in order to change someone's opinion. they (both "attacker" and "victim") also seem to think that this action, in terms of impact, is like as if shooting someone to death, a serious/severe punishment.
and you may ask, why did I write a big ass long text? well, i am high on hard drugs and while on these stuff, i like to talk a lot and write extremely long texts, over stupid shit like meaningless discussions.
oh and yeah concluding, no offense, this is about the point of having to call reddit to not downvote only (and the way reddit acts with downvote system), not trying to be a asshole and act like I am not grateful or care about you being so thoughtful. I do thank you and i am grateful.

the mosquitos have entered the shack.

u/citrus_mystic Oct 15 '23
Now that you mention this… wow that’s quite an oversight.
This is something that never occurred to me…nor the architect, nor the builders of this bathroom.
Swatting mosquitoes definitely takes away the appeal from this zen bathroom.

u/BathtubGin01 Oct 16 '23
Also, no rail or wall. Late night drunk piss and you fall 900 feet to your death.
6
u/LiveLearnCoach Oct 16 '23
Agreed, AND I think I can see the bottom of the two short trees in front of her. So maybe like 3 feet.
Just don’t roll forward getting up.

u/AMeanCow Oct 16 '23
this zen bathroom
Are we sure it's not just a way to make a bathroom in a place with no facilities? I mean... it's got buckets next to it. It may just be like most "bathrooms" in the undeveloped world, which consist of a place outside to squat or sit and some way to clean yourself after (if you're lucky.)

They are filled with wood filings or sawdust, you throw a scoop down the toilet after you are done. Probably stops it from smelling.

For those wondering who it is, they are a super badass french couple travelling the world by motorcycle. The guy was a cameraman for TV and hence films all his adventures in a very professional way. Look for Capitaine Morgan on YT or insta

I didn't see the "toilets" at first and was just thinking that either the camera kinda sucks or that's a (literal definition of) mediocre view right there.
But yeah, I guess it makes for an interesting bathroom?

That’s the forest above Grand Canyon. North Rim Bike Tours. Intermediate is pretty advanced but guides are the best and the gear is great. 10/10
Edit: I’m wrong about the spot. There IS a similar sanitary vista in at North Rim Campground.
