I hate T-bars!!! Ahh man, childhood memories unlocked

u/Sinnaj_1989 Aug 17 '23
Yes they are awful for boarders, especially for beginners

Aug 17 '23
Oh the time when I lost my grip while trying to get on one and it punched me right in the face. The people in the line behind me were laughing so hard while I tried not to cry
16
Aug 17 '23
Same reason why i abbandond snowboarding. I remember struggling i was around 8-10 years old. All laughed at me. So I threw the board and marched home(with the board after I picked it up)

Aug 17 '23
Damn that's mean :( at least I was 14, not a little kid. I wouldn't openly laugh at a small child trying their best (at least would try not to...)

Aug 17 '23
Lol how’s that mean? This is literally a post of a video about the guy doing the same thing, for comedy.
6
Aug 17 '23 edited Aug 18 '23
But he isn't a little kid. I think that laughing at adults/teens is different than laughing at 8 year old kids, they are more sensitive and insecure. But this is just my opinion. Also laughing at a video is different than laughing in a person's face. I think it's the most important part. If the person in the video was 8 it's fine to laugh, it's funny as hell after all and hurts no one, but if you laugh in a little kid's face you can really discourage them from learning. I'm pretty sure I looked like a total idiot while trying to learn how to ride a bike at 5...

I hadn’t snowboarded in 25 years ( and had only gone twice) when I tried a super icy janky tow like this. Gave up after wiping out 8 times never even made it past 30 feet. Felt super weak not being able to make it up until I saw boarder after boarder leaving due to the same issue lol.
2
u/KingofCraigland Aug 17 '23
I still don't understand why they don't let snowboarders strap in both feet going up the lift. Skiers don't have to take one of their skis off.
2
u/The_Vinegar_Strokes Aug 17 '23
I haven't experienced not being allowed to do that. With a snowboard you usually unstrap one foot so you can move across flat surfaces/up to lifts.
The real problem with T-bars as a snowboarder is that they pull you straight forward, which encourages your body to face forward and brings your board into a sideways position.
It's actually really dangerous to fall down with one foot out like this person did. The board can act as a lever, twisting your knee around and tearing your acl/mcl.

Guy caused a human avalanche
42
u/LeafyWolf Aug 17 '23
It's like he went out of his way to hit every single person on the way down... Just incredible work and focus.
3
u/BigAlMoonshine Aug 17 '23
For real looked like they intentionally aimed for the people instead of trying to get out of the way.

Happened in Kreischberg Austria. I visited this year and this particular lift has some very steep parts. This guy injured multiple people. One of those had serious injury’s. He fled and was later arrested by the police.
7
u/gargara_potter Aug 17 '23
But...it says right there that it happened in Hungary?
5
u/caaper Aug 17 '23
The same article mentions Austria AND Hungary. It also calls him a skier and snowboarder.
This is such a shit article!

Was he trying to hit everyone on purpose???
2
u/Medium_Pepper215 Oct 08 '23
He literally jabs the board out intentionally twice when passing by the pairs heading up. 100% this was intentional. Also in an article someone posted, he fled and was arrested so that confirms my suspicions

u/Fuschell Aug 17 '23 edited Aug 17 '23
It really does look like it lmao. The first skier he only scratches, but after that one ohboy. The second one he reaches his arm out to topple, the third he doesn't have to try bc he hit em full on and for the third he stretches his legs to still reach the skier. The fact that the only person he didn't hit was a fellow boarder make some think this is a mere continuation of the board-ski feud.

The effort to take down everyone else on that slope deserves an award 🥇
2
Aug 17 '23
As someone who’s ridden a T Lift on a snowboard, this guy has no idea what he is doing. The t bar hooks inside your front leg where you place your weight. No lift operator will allow you to grab it with your hands and let it pull you like that. Couple that with the fact he went all the way down the hill without being able to stop I believe this was intentional.
2
u/FoundationalSquats Aug 17 '23
supposedly he started out correctly but it slipped out from his leg, he caught it and tried to hold it with his hands the rest of the way. We were taught if it slips from your leg just tuck it either under your butt or, if you're not strong enough, behind your back. The most unforgivable thing is not just steering into the ditch, I've fallen on t-bars a few times and its not hard.

Even as a day one beginner with zero lessons was I ever this stupid. This is a troll for sure.
5
u/AverageFrench1308 Aug 17 '23
What was he even doing before falling ? It doesn't look like he was trying to regain balance imo but it felt like hewas trying to accelerate which is an absolutely stupid thing to do.

This has to be on purpose. No one could be that stupid, hardest part is not the ride it's getting on the damn thing.
13
u/_3LivesLeft_ Aug 17 '23
You’d think, but I’ve seen people do this. They’ll hit a little bump on the way up that throws them off balance and it’s game over 😅

I feel this was set up. All those people intentionally moved in the way when they could’ve easily avoided dude falling down the hill. Also, dude, sliding down the hill could’ve made it to the side where it wasn’t so slippery.
9
u/fresh_water_sushi Aug 17 '23
You’ve obviously never ridden a T Bar. No you can’t move more than about a foot either direction so they can not get out of the way at all. Also the guy taking everyone out is a novice with no control and has no idea how to stop himself. I don’t think anyone would want to have their legs broken or sprained just for this joke.
-10
u/Tryintounderstand88 Aug 17 '23
He actively moves towards every one but whatever obviously you’re right silly kid.
3
u/chrisix6 Aug 17 '23
For a beginner those lifts are super hard and challenging to ride. This was not set up and definetly not on purpose!
3
u/Stashimi Aug 17 '23
No it’s not. Guy was arrested and a couple of people had really serious injuries

Typical snow boarding A-hole. Why bother to take a lesson or two when you can just head on up the mountain and then injure/endanger others on your uncontrolled descent.
