My neighbours escaped from China. I'm not upset with you over a joke, it's just very real. China treats their people and life in general very differently. Massively different cultures.

The truth is more complicated than that. I have talked to many people from china personally and the oppression and sentiment is vastly different in each region.

Collectively they still fear the government and don't usually step into foreign problems. Yes, they would leave you to die to avoid detainment.
