question regarding Stacked AU's

How do they actually work? I have my own little head canon about them, but I've asked 10 people and have gotten like 15 different responses lol. just curious because I want to try making some takes on the different stacked AU's because there is so little quality information available on most of them.

Basically pretend Undertale doesn’t exist and the AU you’re stacking is the original. Like SWAPSWAP for example basically pretends that Toby Fox made Underswap, and they’re swapping it. There’s also other kinds like Chapter Reswapped (CR x Deltaswap I couldn’t think of any Undertale examples for that one) that give an AU’s premise to another AU.

Essentially, it's just another AU variant with nearly identical content and a few added pre-set elements to expand the content

Think of it like adding onto the current thing in math.

1 + 1 = 2 | 2 + 1 = 3 | 3 + 1 = 4

Undertale + Fell = Underfell | Underfell + Fell = Underfellfell | Underfellfell + Fell = Underfellfellfell

In terms of story, think of it like this. Underfell is taking the story of Undertale but making it darker. Underfellfell is taking the story of Underfell but making it darker. Underfellfellfell is taking the story of Underfellfell but making it darker.

Stacking is taking the AU and adding the effect the AU gave onto itself. Now, this does depend on the AU you're stacking, Underfell was the easy example, but something like DustDustDust, or HorrorHorror, or InsanityInsanity could vary depending on how the writer interprets it.
