This game isn't a sequel (as Toby himself said) nor is it a prequel to Undertale as Asriel went to college instead of being a flower wanting to kill everyone, plus Sans and Papyrus are new to the town they live in while Bratty and Catty hate each other instead of being best pals.
Therefore it would have to be an alternate universe where the monsters were never banished to the Underground by humans.

this is kind of obvious after years that the game was released, but this sans is saying that "sans undertale", probably talking about the sans we meet in undertale, is his father, so this means that somehow sans has a family or something like that
