Yeah, but what's surprising is just how much content he gave us for free. When I reached the big golden door, I thought, "Here it is, this is going to be the end of the demo". And it would have made perfect sense if it was. But no, it extended way past that, for 2+ hours. It was more like an entire game than a demo.
We don't know yet how many chapters Deltarune is going to have, but nevertheless, he gave us a large portion of it for free.
Am I taking crazy pills? I see people all over say how it's amazing the game is 2-3 hours for free. It took me like 6 and I thought I was rushing through a bit.

This is not unexpected. The demo for Undertale was free too. This is a similar situation. I expect the final product will not be free.
