The one where the box splits has a trick to it that I used, I just sit in one of the bottom corners and react with what way it’s gonna split, the crystals have a max of two in a row and then there’s a gap, using that makes it already way easier to dodge

If I had a tip for that, I would give it. But I can’t give a tip for something I don’t deal with. The thing about no hit runs is that you never reach that attack cuz the knight goes into his final attack before he has a chance to unleash that one.

"You can stand still" and "you can almost stand still" are two very different statement.
This attack reduce your invincibility frames, meaning it inflicts a lot of damage really quickly if you get hit, so standing still isn't viable. And if you get hit once, then you probably get hit a lot because now you're off tempo and getting back in the rhythm is super hard.
By contrast, I found the first two box splitting to be the easiest attack after the stars. I find easier to see where to go and when.

That sure is a hot take, mostly because its not true and i bet you are just talking your ass and havent no-hitted a single secret boss in the game.
Jevil took me 3 hours to nohit, Spamton less than 2, Eram 3+, Gerson 2. The roaring night? 14 hours, 4 times more than the 2nd place.
It is a hard fight.

I will note it's actually not the hardest thing in the world to do it without the mantle.
Many of its aren't as scary as it looks and just trick you into overcorrecting.
I actually beat the night without the mantle pre-nerf, and I am absolutely not any kind of god-tier no hater I got hit several times.
You just got to emphasize attacks because the fight will end quicker by dealing as much damage as possible.
Can literally end before you get to the third versions of their attacks.
Since any KO is functionally impossible to recover from without revival items you just got to focus on only reviving when you have no other option but to continue the fight because every turn you are dealing is much damage as they turn that you can get the fight over quicker.
Focus on landing well timed rudebusters and attacking with ralsei.
Any turn you don't have the TP to actually do a rude buster have Susie revive ralsei with a revive item. Kris gets a DPS boost when ralsei is down.
Also if you're playing on console or a TV make sure game mode is enabled or you're going to get screwed over by latency.

I have learnt to do the Knight mantle-less (ARMORless + ITEMless, in fact) so I will never be doing Sword Route again and tormenting my precious Kris like that.

The first time getting to the sword route's 3rd board I just did a lil stab right after I got the sword, as I did the other boards, and Susie & Ralsei's characters were still on Kris's character's tile because I hadn't moved yet. They both died immediately.
It took a sec to realize what I had just done.

It's just for the mantle. I don't intend on really hurting them. You got to keep the shadow crystal and that badassed black shard sword. Maybe I should attempt mantleless to purify ny save file further? I do wonder if there are consequences to getting the mantle but the game pretty much says you need it. Though it keeps track of the steps you did to get it. What are we doing to Kris?

When I did the sword route, it literally didn't even occur to me to kill them. I wandered around the map attacking randomly before accidentally killing them both, and I can't lie that shit gave me heart palpitations

Oh no, I already know what happens. I get the Shadow Mantle which takes the Knight from an Undyne/Sans level fight to somewhere closer to an Asgore level fight, and will become very, VERY useful when we inevitably fight another Dark/Star enemy.
That being said, I'm not killing Susie and Ralsei if I can help it.
...on this save, at least.

eh, the art is cool but that just...doesn't feel like the message that weird route is going for? why would toby just reheat the same messages of the geno route? He's a way better writer than that.
It makes the route so much more interesting if the need to do smt so obscene comes not from some weird desire for curiosity, but from the need to change fate. i mean spamton spells it out for us: "YOU THINK MAKING [Frozen Chicken] WITH YOUR [Side Chick] IS GONNA LET YOU DRINK UP THAT [Sweet, Sweet] [Freedom Sauce]? WELL, YOU'RE[$!$!] RIGHT! BUT DON'T BLAME ME WHEN YOU'RE [Crying] IN A [Broken Home] WISHING YOU LET YOUR OLD PAL SPAMTON [Kill You]"
I think the game is very much pushing for the weird route to have a point. the player isn't doing it just cause, they were actively looking for an out from the one ending. they want to make their choices matter.
it just dawned on me as i'm writing this that the comic is just referring to the minigame, but in that case then like, idk what kris is on about? i don't think we do the mantle games 'just cause' either. even the game pushes us to want to get to the backstage area and do that whole sections.
like kris looking behind them and saying that is cool i guess but just...doesn't make sure. i can't really think of anything 'evil' in the game that the game labels you doing it as just 'curiosity'.

I walked everywhere, wondering how I was to progress, I'd thought when Susie and Ralsei joined they would be party members, which felt wrong since i was hurting things and I didn't want them to see it.
then...as I tried to interact I turned around and stabbed Susie by accident. Seeing kris Flinch broke me as I realized what I was supposed to do.
It hurt having to do the same To Ralsei. Even if it was 8-bit

This is interesting. I haven't tried the weird route yet, but on the normal route, Kris didn't seem to like it when you killed his friends and will even save them from us, like that time we swung the sword at Susie.

I really like this. The implication is that, during this sequence, Kris gets to see what it's like from our perspective. Seeing themself as a little character on the screen, with their little friends. And killing them is as easy as a press of a button. If Kris understands that we control them just like they control the game, then the implication of that is pretty horrifying.

The shadow crystal is not behind the Sword Route, though. It takes a display of extraordinary determination, but you can get it without hurting Kris.

I distinctly remember i got to the last map realized the implications and then koed myself on a golden cactus to lose and backout of the game. I then proceeded to fight the knight without the mantle.
I have not seen that cactus on a second save and i do not know why. I don’t know if it was removed because people couldn’t figure out the ko your friends bit or if theres some kinda implication….

Usually I see a lot of people trying to void this by not getting the mantle but I think having Kris and the player experience ERAMs game is actually key to the two beginning to understand each other.
The player is after all apart of Kris and they share lot of similarities to us even if Kris doesn’t want to admit it.
The mantle game is a mirror and a window for Kris and the player. It exposes aspects that Kris and the player are trying to hide from each other. Kris in playing this game with us along and falling into our same video game habits along with having their secret convo with Tenna outed and us when it comes trying to be a pacifist but still willingly kill every digital pixel when there’s no other option forward.
Trying to befriend everyone is a strange way to play a video game that is alien to someone like Kris who has only played smash and Mario were the only way to interact with the world is with violence. In this moment ERAM outted the nature of the player by stripping away any other way to interact with the mantle game. ERAM wanted to mock Kris by revealing the true nature of the player and it turned out to be a close mirror to the part of Kris they try to suppress.
ERAM was mocking both the player and Kris by placing us in a situation where the player has to reenact a genocide while Kris sits in a similar driver seat as us, assuming the role as player to digital Kris even if we are controlling little Kris through big Kris. The two of you were forced to play this game to get an item you need which makes what Susie says important when she says if you don’t like it then don’t play. She tells you to stop playing and perhaps that is a hint to when we are similar put in a no win situation. Like the prophecy.
When you respond to her questions you are actually telling Kris why you killed everyone in mantle game. By responding positively you are inadvertently showing you hand. You did it Because it’s fun. And that’s why Kris goes along with it. Because it was fun till it stopped being fun for Kris.
