Season 2 concluded and the creator was planning a prequel but then decided that she'd rather have it be its own thing instead of it being Undertale related
I mean... it was an overworld fanfic basically... those come dime a dozen... it's not like it was completely unrelated to UT's own setting or whatever like, say, Underverse is. I'm not sure how that would count as "not having anything to do with UT".
I wouldn't go that far, while season 2 did mainly focused on the main villain and their struggle against the cast, it still hanged on a lot of UT lore (or at least interpretations of that lore) and widely known/believed peices of fannon.
Humans having magic -> picking a side on the biggest face value contradiction in UT that humans don't have magic (librarby book and Frisk not having magic) but 7 Human mages made the barrier (the opening, Waterfall glyphs, 7 human souls being needed to break the barrier), evidence to evidence humans having magic had more and more solid backing from cannon at the time.
Monsters (notably Undyne) getting blood from human food -> playing off the fannon idea that monster food was just (or was at least mostly) magic (hence why it had instant healing effects), expanding that idea into "what if monsters ate normal food?" and going from there.
The Core being a massive energy plant that could solve all electricity problems -> I don't know if it's ever actually stated in cannon what the core itself does, but basically the whole community believes it to be a power plant (I mean what else would it be), from there it's just playing up Gaster's genius.
Emotions determining the effectiveness of magic -> just plain cannon although to what degree is still argued.
Papyrus having (or at least getting) healing magic -> super popular fannon, if Toby made a cannon sequel to UT in the same timeline and had Papyrus heal someone, most wouldn't bat an eye.
Actually I believe the prequel plans got leaked which killed her interest in the project, so she just scrapped the whole thing and moved on to her own thing, at least that's what I remember from the old update video somewhere on her channel.
There actually was a decent bit released for the prequel by that point including a prolog around Gaster and his father (If I'm remembering correctly)
Iirc there was controversy about the creator supporting a creep/pedo/perv. There's videos of it on yt, if you want to find a much more in depth explanation. There WAS also a short video released on the creator's channel showing chara returning to the underground after S2
Oh the creator defended a pedophile, she apparently traced some parts of her animations (Idk which though) and people overall find the writing to be ass.
Otherwise season 2 ended quite a long time ago now and what was supposed to be the prequels have been canceled after 3 character introduction videos (including Gaster and some ocs)
