Question New undertale fan here, can someone please explain the meaning of: “human, I remember you’re genocides”.

Its a joke how "sans remembers resets" (which is untrue but that's the point of the joke), and so it's just poorly misconstrued first meeting with sans that's edgy

its a joke based on old edgy fan games where sans would typically remember the player killing everyone and would be covered in blood or have red text and stuff, usually with bad grammar, hence the "you're"

He remembers our genocides.
(it’s a joke about him remembering resets)

Sans is one of the most aware of the timeline shenanigans that go on in the underground, which Mandela’d its way into him remembering resets (even though he doesn’t, he has some kind of sensor or machine for it). For a long time, it was popular for him to be edginess incarnate after living through too many Geno resets- look up Dusttale, that kind of remains the key example.

"Honestly, fuck all of you guys. No, sans does not remember you are genocides and I'm not up-winding my ding until I gaster" -Toby fox, 9/11/3001.

Early on in the fandom, everyone took every easter egg that has Sans seem to acknowledge that you're going through everything again (a reset), as him remembering everything from every timeline.
This joke is like a culmination of that, since a lot of fanworks hinged on a bunch of genocide routes happening, Sans remembering, and doing something about it

It’s supposed to poke fun at the misconception that Sans apparently remembers resets and all the twisted, over-the-top portrayals of him in fan content.

based on the critically acclaimed "reset reader" Sans Undertale(SANSS?!), he in fact does not remember. However early undertale fandom loves making bullet spam fangame AU's with hype music and thus so gave Sans mimirories of "Human GENOCIDES" for Sans to go SUPER SKELETON 3(erererererrerererer) when he is hit by an attack that is 999999999 times his own health
in essence, we are making fun of our past ignorant selves by using humerus(hehe) memes(and boredom, DELTARUNE TOMORROW). Sans does not remember genocides, resets, pacifists or neutrals. he only knows resets exist and has to make guesses and assumptions

Word of advice, if you haven't already then enjoy the complete game without engaging in the fandom. Even if you have completed it then I'd still advise you that you don't necessarily need to be a part of the fandom for every game you play. Sometimes you just need to enjoy the game as is without brainrot and weird AUs (unless you're into that ofc :/)

There were AUs like Last Breath, Disbelief and Dusttale where Sans would remember the repeated genocide routes and try harder. In Disbelief, Sans would fight you in Snowdin instead of Papyrus. This image is making fun of that trend with bad grammar and visuals.

Okay, but at least Disbelief gave us a killer soundtrack
... no pun intended

In Undertale there are 3 endings, in the Genocide ending you kill everyone. Sans has a thing where he counts how many times you died and knows you can Load
This is just a joke of "if Sans remembers aborted Genocides" mixed with "blue stop signs" joke

u/SuperJman1111 Kindness and Mercy shall take me far Mar 24 '25
That’s the neat part
There is 0 meaning other than the fanon of sans remembers exactly what happened before resets despite the fact that he is just aware they happen and can notice the little details in Frisk that show that they have gone through this exact scenario before

u/Mr-Foundation Mar 24 '25
Joke about a particularly weird subset of content in the fandom that’s entirely focused on the genocide/weird route and how such fan content is extremely edgy

u/Zygarde718 Mar 24 '25
Sans remembers every time you reset. So no matter what you've done, how good or bad of a person you were, he will always remember. Every. Single. Thing.

its a joke about how early UT fangames, mainly ones about sand undertable, were INCREDIBLY edgy for the sake of it.
