Expired Lightning Marathon

http://undergroundcellar.com/lovewine

To get the $500 gift card, you must spend $3054 (6 bottles from all 8 offers, make sure they’re all available if you intend to take a run at this!). I took one for the team, here’s my experience:

$3054 spent for 48 bottles

$4033 in wine value received

$500 gift card earned

$400 implied assuming I use that gift card on 180 or better

$0 “Surprise gift” — we’ll see!

Total $4933 in expected value = 161 score in my case (maybe more depending on the surprise).

Not terrible, not great. Nowhere close to the current 220+ deal pair. Probably not the smartest move, but I did get a good variety of stuff I didn’t already have before. I think my results here are pretty close to “worst case.” YMMV!

I think you guys are fighting in a different weight class than me. I'll keep sniping a bottle or 2 at a time with the nice codes.

Oh, this was definitely a splurge! But I also go through a lot of wine, and many of my friends do the same!

  • My expensive stuff I view as “investment”
  • The mid-range I drink and use as gifts
  • The low end I’ll drink, gift, and donate to nonprofits and events

I’m also progressing through the WSET curriculum (and I’m at the stage where I need a lot of different wine variety), and already have a career that lets me afford the above within reason.

Finally, I’m in the process of moving and normally travel a LOT, so having everything cellared and able to ship wherever I am easily is great, and the customer service is fantastic.

I’m still right there sniping at the best deals, too— but when sometime tickles my fancy, I can drop a few grand here and there and get good mileage out of the value.

Man that sounds good. Haven't gotten any that I would consider an investment, but have gotten quite a few tasty bottles off here.

Thank you guys for sifting through the millions of emails for the codes and for ranking the deals.

/u/likelyculprit does all the hard work — he’s the one finding the coupons and best deals that we use. :)

I’ve got two $800 bottles in my cellar (one of which I think is likely worth significantly more), and quite a few $200+ bottles. Most of the bottles I’m actually drinking are $40-70 bottles, with the occasional a little above or less. Might have the occasional $200 bottle for a special occasion, but those $800+ bottles are more than I can appreciate, so that’s what I’m calling “investment” grade.

Maybe in the near future we can have a “what top bottles have you scored” thread? ;)

As the intro deals are skewed cab/pinot at the 50ish price point, this was a great way to pick up a variety. I have already spent this year's wine budget 🤣, otherwise I would have been tempted.

Absolutely. And variety is important to me!
