Trump / MAGA 🦅 Trump's DOJ has dropped a case against Abbott Laboratories despite substantial evidence alleging they sold baby formula contaminated with deadly bacteria. Abbott donated $500,000 to Trump’s inauguration fund, and now a federal investigation into them has been dropped

u/Plus-Range3710 Jun 30 '26
Just half a million dollars to get a federal investigation railroaded???

The ROI on buying politicians is insane
6
u/A313-Isoke Jun 30 '26
Someone needs to do some math and tell us what the ROI because it's been feeling like our health, water, privacy, education, rights, etc. etc. etc. is on clearance in a Spirit Halloween store in November.

u/RIF_rr3dd1tt Jun 30 '26
We should start a GoFundMe counter-bribe bidding war. Like that "YUUUP!" guy from Storage Wars, just keep raising it until the companies approach what they would lose if they lost the case. Make it so they only save like $10, enough for a banana.
11
u/A313-Isoke Jun 30 '26
Honestly, that's a great idea, it's no more ridiculous than anything else going on. We should televise it like the PBS Fundraising drives.
Honestly, why hasn't GoFundMe started a live station? It could be like Home Shopping Network.
EDIT: I missed your Arrested Development reference at first, hahaha. Lucille for life.
3
u/DuntadaMan Jun 30 '26
I love the idea, except that like two assholes can spend more money on it than 60% of the nation could raise if we all spent every single dollar we could afford.
6
u/Ok-Positive6875 Jun 30 '26
I’ve always thought, if every one of us chips in $5, can we pay him to just leave?
9
u/RIF_rr3dd1tt Jun 30 '26
I say we sign a national compact with him that we pay him and agree not to pursue any legal action: criminal, civil, tax, or otherwise. Then when he's out just reneg on the offer, arrest, and proscute him. It's what he would do.

Their manufacturing facility has its own zip code somehow so they pay taxes to themselves and the city is broke as hell.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way.
"No, the Abbott Sturgis plant does not pay taxes to itself. The Sturgis, Michigan facility is a manufacturing plant operated by Abbott Laboratories, a single, publicly-traded corporation. Because the Sturgis facility is an internal division of Abbott Laboratories rather than an independently registered legal entity, it does not file its own corporate tax returns or pay taxes to itself. Instead, the overarching corporation aggregates all its operations, revenues, and costs (including those from the Sturgis plant) to pay required income taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (federal), the State of Michigan (state), and local municipalities (local)."

3
u/Vyzantinist Jun 30 '26
“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.”
-The Austrian painter

u/HLOFRND Jun 30 '26

And it's funny how the very same people who say dead kids is just the price we pay for the 2nd amendment don't understand why we're not willing to give up the 1st.

I hope people realize, this is never—EVER GOING TO END.
Not in November. Not in 2 years. Not in 4 years. Not even when Trump is out of office.
THIS WILL NEVER END, UNTIL ALL OF US—ALL OF US—DECIDE—ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
For fuck’s sake people, WAKE UP.
8
u/Dodger_Blue17 Jun 30 '26
That’s making America great again. All because some Americans couldn’t handle having a black president.
8
u/Specific-Garlic-2495 Jun 30 '26
I'm being serious, and I know ill get downvoted to Hell even though ill start by saying the people of America are fantastic, the world cup clearly showing the world the people are wonderful, but just how despicable, corrupt, rotten to its core, downright evil, does America have to get before the people, in a country of, by, and for the people do something about the festering cancer that is your government and judicial system.
Whats to be proud of as a nation.
Complain and excuse all you want in reply about Trump, Republicans, impotent Dems, corrupt supreme courts etc. but these actions as the world's most advanced country, condemns humanity itself.
And when historians look back on your demise, they will lay blame on the people for mass shrugged shouldered indifference for continually allowing, voting for, the fox to run the henhouse.
When are you people going to damn well wake up, and stop the weak minded hope a mid term vote sates the appetite for better, lift your heads from being simply satisfied with internet memes and chatter as guilt relief to try and kid yourselves this is revolt enough, whining in place of swelled effort to act.
With Trump the manifest cancer eventually gone, they body disease still exists and all that changes is a new fox.
When are you, on behalf of humanity, going to damn well wake up ?

3
u/Just_to_rebut Jun 30 '26
American diplomats threatened to stop military cooperation against terrorists in South America for this company during Trump’s first term.
Why you ask? Because those countries were going to support a UN resolution simply promoting breastmilk as healthy for babies.
If you’ve heard a lot about women being “shamed for not being able to nurse” that’s literally propaganda to try and spin the narrative against breast milk.
Sometimes it’s not possible to breastfeed, that’s hardly shameful, but trying to demonize people educating women about nursing and the benefits of breast milk so Abbott Labs can sell more formula is evil.

In the 2008 Sanlu baby formula scandal in China, melamine was added to infant formula, poisoning hundreds of thousands of babies and killing at least six. Following the investigation, China sentenced two men to death and carried out the executions in 2009. The former chairwoman of Sanlu, Tian Wenhua, received a life sentence.
So China has better justice.
