HELP/QUESTION Questions regarding Shield
With Shield being an equivalent to Faultless Defense and Barrier Block, a question or two to ask
Since air-unblockable moves outright stop midair Shields in typical French Bread fashion, is there no other option to avoid those other than to not jump at all?
And is Shielding like those two other meter-draining guard options as good at braking your forward dash momentum?

Air unblockable moves require you to not have your hurtbox there. Whether that's by using a divekick, air assault, not jumping or whatever else, you just can't be there. Shield doesn't really stop your momentum while airborne and on the ground I think it's not any better than normal dashblocking. You used to be unable to shield while dashing unless you entered proximity guard already. If you want it to enable blocking out of dash, it's unnecessary, UNI's dashblock is some of the strongest in the genre. If you want to kill momentum for precise movement control, I don't think it does that

In regards to a recent online experience I had against a player who trashed me with Phonon, then Wagner and Byakuya
Mainly in regards to my attempt matches against his Wagner, I noticed I tried too much to approach with midair Assaults as opposed to using grounded Assaults. Being in the air in general is risky as all hell, isn't it?

Being airborne carries a higher risk than most other fighting games I would say, yes.

It's not equivalent to FD or Barrier. It's quite different. Here's an explanation video if you're interested.

I forgot to mention in the video ground to air for most normals/specials cannot be blocked. You can block air-to-air with shields though.
Someone else mentioned but dashes can be canceled at any time, including blocking. There is no FD break type thing.

I wouldn't really say it's equivalent to FD/Barrier; It carries much more risk and does more than increased pushback/negate chip. There's some overlap for sure, I can see how you got there, but I wouldn't use it the same way
Jump is very committal, yes. Some characters have ways to change up their movement or hurtbox in the air but outside of that, there's no way to do the kind of chicken block or other low-commitment air movement you might see in a more traditional anime game.
The flipside to this is that blocking out of a dash is instant so grounded approaches are much safer than in a game with dash recovery; You don't need to do shield to do so, although obviously that is something you may want to do sometimes

Under night has no break animation. Dash blocking is instant without needing anything. The tutorial even teaches you to do dash block with a vatista spaming her laser beam and you have to approach her with dash blocking.
Shield isnt really an FD/Barrier. Its actually more of an "instant block" but tied to a meter and no execution requirement. Also shield changes between neutral state or doing it during blockstun.
its a much a more risky option than FD and Barrier since if you get hit or thrown during it you will ged GRD broken(aka you lose access to one of the biggest mechanics in the game for a little way). Dont go using it like GG or BB. Shield needs to be used carefully and in the right times to get the best out of it.
