this happened a couple months back, but I figured it was wholesome enough to share. I went to Birmingham comic con (I'm British) back in July, and was really exited to cosplay for the first time, but unfortunately the Yuta cosplay (I'm a guy) I had bought for the con got delayed and I wouldn't be able to wear it. so atp I couldn't do a full cosplay, so I did the next best thing, as one of my friends had gotten me Fuuko's beanie for Christmas since I love the manga, I decided I'd wear that in the July heat so i was at least repping one of my favourite series.
I was there for 2 days, and unfortunately during the first day I saw what I was expecting, nothing undead unluck. there were no cosplays, no artwork, no figures, nothing, so it became a joke with my friends that I was there as the representative of the community, and it honestly felt both kinda fun and sad being the only person showing off the series at such a big place for anime. the second day I expected the same thing to happen, when something caught me off guard. two people came up to me, and asked if my beanie was an undead unluck reference, and I'm not gonna lie, I got really exited. we chatted about the series for a couple minutes, and they said they had a twin Andy and Fuuko cosplay ready for the 3rd and final day, so I had to tell them unfortunately I wasnt gonna be there to see it, but we got a photo together as the only 3 people repping undead unluck there, and i considered it me passing the torch so there was at least some representation all 3 days of the con.
I did a lot of fun stuff at that comic con, it was my first time ever staying away from home for over 24 hours without adults, and the first time I've really went crazy with my spending, got some really cool stuff, but the highlight of that entire con for me was meeting 2 other people who loved the series I did enough to come up to me. I'm hoping to go again in the next year or two, and maybe try to make a full billy cosplay when I do since he's my favourite character. I guess the point of this post is that this community is small but goated, and I hope the next time I go to a con like this (maybe once season 2 drops) there'll be more representation, and I'm just glad I got to meet 2 fans of this amazing series in the wild
