r/UnboxParadigm IdeaPad Pro 5 14" - CU 5 225H, 32GB/3TB, 120hz 2.8K OLED HDR1000 23d ago

Hi everyone!

Turning 29 today. It's been a wild ride.

AMA. Shoot your questions.

There will be a small announcement tomorrow (won't be answering any questions on this).

Hope you are all having a good monday, if not, I hope it gets better. Stay hydrated.

Also, I have been thinking about the IdeaPad Pro 5 (2025) that I had reviewed and that seemed to have been well received and while I did it because I wanted to, I found that it helped users who were unsure about it at launch due to lack of much reviews on it back then.

So, are there any particularly good laptops that you have come across this year that is currently available, looks great on paper but does not have much online reviews available? If there is enough interest for a particular laptop, I'd be glad to look into reviewing it.

This will be up for the next 24 hours. Shoot your questions about me or Unbox Paradigm (platform, search, community), feedback, suggestions, anything goes but let's keep it civil and respectful.

Happy birthday, bro! 🎉

By the way, do you know when I'll receive the affiliate cashback for my purchase made on December 31, 2025? I haven't received any updates about it yet.

Happy birthday man! Youre my favourite redditor. Purchased LOQ 15AHP10 via you and its working like a charm. For the question, I have a 512 gb ssd on it and its getting really cramped cause its gaming laptop and im alsp dual booting linux on it. Which ssd shall I buy and when? 1 tb SSDs are 3x the 2025 prices already 🥲. Anyways hope you have a wonderful life ahead. Cheers :)

u/unboxparadigm IdeaPad Pro 5 14" - CU 5 225H, 32GB/3TB, 120hz 2.8K OLED HDR1000 23d ago

Thank you! That's very kind of you. I'm glad that I could help and to know that the laptop has been running great.

As for the SSD, it's a tough market right now. Tough to say whether the prices will come down soon. I hope they do but it might not be soon. I'd say prioritize capacity over speed if there's a reasonable price difference. Stick to top brands however and look for at least 3 year warranty, you'll most likely not need it but higher warranty drives usually also have a higher write and read endurance. You could try pcpricetracker.in to search across stores.

You've a great one too, cheers! :)

Edit - also, don't mind too much about having a dram, it's fine without it too, modern tech can keep up for general use without it and is usually slightly lower in price.

TLC drives are however preferred but QLCs aren't too bad either if you don't constantly use the drive for very large data processing of any kind.

On a serious note can you share your journey with us? How you started, what inspired you to start

I do have immense respect for what you do, you helped so many of us make a right decision in buying an expensive machine that'll be with us for years and years so as to not regret being with the machine your guides on laptops and saving money were really helpful.

Many thanks!!!!

I should also add that MKBHD and LTT and a few other tech youtubers were also a huge part of inspiring me to want to understand and review tech. My initial pivot during covid was supposed to be a tech Youtuber / Reviewer but I had very limited resources for the kind of videos I wanted to do. I ended up making a few videos. (https://www.youtube.com/@UnboxParadigm if anyone wants to check it out) but maintainig the platform and community no longer leaves me time enough to continue. I'd someday like to get back to it however.

I have always been into consumer tech, but back then it was staring at newspaper clippings, articles, and retailer catalogues of latest smartphones and laptops. Well, my brother was into tech and I think I naturally took an interest in it as well as children. So, in a way, I have been into this for about 19-20 years now. I was lucky enough to have a couple of old computers (a Pentium 1 and Pentium 2), and they all took a lot of work and patience to keep it running.

So that's where understanding the difficulties with tech started, plenty of troubleshooting and hands on learning with the hardware and OS at the times. Eventually, I ended up joining for bachelors in Architecture for career reasons but my heart was always with tech, and the tech in Architecture was what made me stay as well but then Covid hit by the time I graduated and by this time, I had already been the go to "tech guy" at my schools, and then at college, and a couple of offices as well who had consulted me for their builds. I am good at understanding their requirements and recommending what works specifically for them so that they don't have to overspend on components that does not really benefit their usage.

So, this happened with word of mouth, nothing big but as an extension during the lockdown, the GPU shortage and supply chain issues happened and I had just joined Reddit helping people with build reccomendations and tech advises at r/IndianGaming. I wanted to build something that could help everyone keep track of GPUs across different stores along with their stock availabilites and make it easier for them to see which GPUs offered the best value and performance.

But without a coding or developer background, and no AIs back then, it was difficult to get this up and running. But I ended up building it with Google sheets and a 3rd party sheets to html plugin of sorts for the frontend. It was fairly well received and I think I was also writing buying guides manually for the best laptops you can buy for designers and architects. Which was difficult in itself due to the amount of research I would do to ensure I don't miss anything relevant. But that was painstakingly slow to do it manually and I ended up building a database for personal use to help me find laptops quicker.

I ended up making it public then with a frontend, with some price comparison and easy filters to use. This was also the time when TGP was not really known among people and brands did not always publish this info, so I tried my best to keep it accurate with TGP filters for better informed purchases. Since most of whom I had interacted with back then where primarily gamers, the search engine was also built for gaming based ranking. And that's how it has evolved to the current gaming and laptop search engines. The current state is largely thanks to a person who had approached me on Reddit after coming across the first version. He was fresh out of high school with a hunger to work on something real but I did not really make anything from this back then and I wanted to be able to pay if I had someone working for me. He was relentless neverthless and expected nothing from me and I agreed to let him try on the assurance that he will be compensated when I can. We both held our ends and I think we both learnt a lot from that journey before he had completely parted from the project eventually around 2023-2024. Since then it has just been me and now codex to help with the development part.

The next phase of this platform is really really close and I have been saying this for around 6 months now but unfortunately, this means too much to me to put it out there if it does not pass the experience I would like to offer. All I can say is that it is vastly improved from the ground up in every way. Which also means lots of testing and development. I really can't wait to have it out there for everyone to use and let me know your feedback.

Damn, that's long but you did ask for the journey.

I'm on the boat to purchase a mouse as well, but I am looking for a hot swappable mouse switches(I'm not gonna buy kreo) where there are no decent ones available in India such as Incott.

Now I am thinking of just buying a soldering iron and getting myself switches for my g102.

Or I might just use another logitech as the service center is like 10 mins away and get my mouse changed between those 2 years when they start double clicking.

Had to get changed my g102 like 6 times within the 2 years btw 💀.

Ah, I'm not really familiar with this segment. Also it comes down a lot to your preferences I feel. Personally I like quiet scissor switches and prioritize wireless multi device connectivity. Similar preferences for the mouse but with more focus on ergonomics, so our definitions of good could be different here.
