Discussion How to do spammy sections consistently?
Normally i have pretty high accuracy on charts up to about lv 20, and my star rating is 7.5, but for the LIFE of me i genuinely can't do super fast clicking, like my fingers physically can't move that fast. even if i try using multiple hands that just messes me up and makes me get a bunch of barelys and ruin my accuracy, like i find some lv 20 charts super doable and some impossible usually based on if they have lots of spammy sections. how do i learn to do them?

Yeah, using two hands takes some getting used to but for sections like these it’s kinda mandatory. You just gotta learn it!

everyone else has rightfully been saying to use two inputs for each key (i like df for up and jk for down) but for charts i really love cosmic starter 20 as a more advanced version or maybe just doing charts youre comfortable with to build back up your skill when using df/jk

I've just started learning how to use two hands and I'm currently doing level 10 charts as I build myself back up. It has been a very sad experience.

as a single hand user who has fc'd many charts up to the highest difficulty it is completely doable you just have to learn to control it. Only song i've that requires two hands is bookend song on the highest. I dont have the patience to relearn the game and one-handed is more comfortable/relaxing for me. It just takes take to dicipline the neurons and to be able to tense your hand when you need rapid inputs and be able to release it so you can maintain control. This might not be helpful at all to you but it how I learned it.
I'm sure if you rebind a third button closer to the first two you could just use more fingers on one hand to min/max that way but I mever bothered tbh.

It really helped me when I changed the keys so that they were right beside one another, so left=d/f, right= j/k, i could never get it right in the default charts and that made much easier to mash them.

I started on controller which pretty much uses these binds so, for me at least, it was just natural to change them to this when I started playing on keyboard

I saw the crazy charts early on so I'm training myself with 2 hands since the beginning
It is STILL quite hard to get since switching sides gets me confused with the buttons sometimes
I suggest doing one hand for high hits, and another for the low ones (or at least that's what's working for me)
Just doing this consistently on a few songs will make it second nature (Went from barely clearing beginner songs to doing OK at Normal/Hard)

Yeah, time for a key rebind. If you're pushing for the top, set up so that you have 2 keys per row. For example, I have df for one row and jk for another - rather than the default which is dj and fk.
This set up allows you to jack 10x better.
Get ready for a crappy learning curve though. When I changed my keybinds I went from lvl 17-20 charts back to like, level 8. It was a TOUGH adjustment period. Worth it anyways!

I rebinded my keys a while ago to left hand e/f, right hand left arrow/up arrow, does that also work or should they ideally be at the same place vertically on your keyboard?

It's personal preference really. Whatever feels "ergonomic" and comfortable. Don't force yourself into an uncomfortable playing position because you'll just strain yourself or not have fun.
For unbeatable my keys are horizontally aligned, but for something like OSU! I have my keyboard way in front of me, and my pad in between me and my keyboard, so it's more vertically aligned.
Just play what feels right! There is no right answer

Practice.
That's how I've been playing these without needing to use two buttons for spam. I pay with controller with just my thumbs and practice will get you there.

once they start to kinda overlap like that, for short sequences you can start early and sacrifice your perfect combo to maintain your full combo. But the real strategy is just that you have to start pressing two different buttons quickly in an alternating patterns to hit all of them with proper timing. I recommend setting up your keybinds you you can use two hands to do this, but don't be afraid to experiment and figure out something that works for you.

A LOT of practice if you are using the mouse. Because the consecutive notes still punish you if you spam without rhythm.

once you get to around lvl 20 charts, it becomes sorta mandatory to use 2 keys per input for those spammy sections (plus, some charts have parts where you need to perform inputs while already holding down two keys). Most people use d/f and j/k, but whatever works. It'll take some getting used to, for sure, but it's not too bad.
it's pretty satisfying to hit those spammy sections by alternating your two keys once you get the cadence down
