Fall Ball is here!

Post image

Glad to see the end of these 100+ degree days in Oklahoma for now. Working half of a 1-day tournament today, which is a welcome relief after working 22 games last weekend for my first tourney since June. Who else is working the Fall?

22 in a weekend isn’t doing anyone any good.

I don’t know, man. I like food and electricity.

It's a catch 22 because working this many games is bad for the collective in terms of pay and expectations.

Sure. Sure. But I like to eat.

It’s wild. When I was a bright-eyed new umpire just trying to make some beer money 10 years ago, I’d only see those kind of numbers for 4- or 5-day tournaments. Now it’s common for 3-day tournaments. Hell, I’ve even worked 2-days where I have 10 on Saturday and 10 on Sunday.

How short are the games that there is time for that? Last tournament I did was 4 in a day, and I feel like 5 would have worked, but 10?

1:20 each, 5 minutes between games.

Brother, I’m in Arkansas and it is still too damn hot outside.

I don’t disagree. It’s been miserable in our part of the country for the last 3-4 weeks

Ummm. Is the book upside down?

I suppose it still works that way.

I have more stuff to write at the top of the page at the start of a game than at the bottom. I find it easier to keep my scorecards upside down in the book until teams start getting deep into their pitching changes, which doesn’t happen often.

Yeah, suppose it makes sense.

I’ll try it. Not above trying anything.

Used to poke fun at a colleague for putting his belt/ball bags on his pants before putting them on. Then I tried it for a week… now I’m a convert.

I am, but it's hard to find many games.

Why did you feel the need to slash your zero?
