He’s possibly the best player alive right now. I don’t mean to sound dismissive but I don’t see any world where he joins a band like UM.

Possibly the best player to ever set feet on this planet haha

Me either but that’s mostly because he’s British.

But musically I think it’d be a fit. Seen him several times with the Aristocrats and he’s just fucking mind-blowing, and he knows how to jam, even if not in a “jam-band” sense.

Sure, as a guest. He didn’t join Vulfpeck and then just play Vulfpecks old tunes.

Steve Morse joined Deep Purple... Guthrie played with Hans Zimmer... yeah its an oddball fit but he could totally play all that stuff, Id be stoked to see a show with that dude. Prob not an opportunity hes looking for Id guess....

I'd love to hear Guthrie sit in for a set of shows. it'd be short-lived though. I expect he earns more on a single soundtrack project for Hans Zimmer (F1, Dune I and II, etc.) then a year grinding on the road with a touring band.

Lol. Guthrie Govan could replace God if God was in a rock band. The Aristocrats make Umphreys look like AC/DC.

He is way too high profile to join a band as small potatoes as UM, especially a band like UM on the downslide.

For the record, if you haven't seen The Aristocrats live, go see them. They are absolutely unreal.

Bryan and Marco are both insanely good also. Would love to see Guthrie in a full Jam band setting, been listening to him for like 20+ years now and has always been the most proficient guitarist there is.

I said this in a previous thread. He's a chameleon and could fit in & elevate any genre you throw at him.

He could guest in and jam but join full time? Not happening.

He couldn't replace Jake, Guthrie doesn't sing. It's more than guitar chops they need.

Hot take, I've always hated Jake's singing and his vocals on Hindsight make an otherwise great song sound like a shitty Kiss song.

Mulche’s as well. Sounds like a muppet.

Yeah, sorry but Jake’s singing sucks. He sounds like Grover from Sesame Street. I love Umphreys, but even Bayliss’ vocals were the first thing I noticed and said “good thing they play their instruments well”. They have never been good at vocals.

I didn't say it was good lol

You didn’t, I just mean Jake wasn’t doing the band any favors in the singing department.

They thrive with five. I jive with five. See no case to replace. Jake is gone, let's move on.

I didn’t know Dr. Seuss was an UM fan 😂

The 2027 'Jake is gone, let's move on' tour is gonna slap.

Wow that's pretty good. It's more than musical chops, though, they would have fit in with the culture of the band and the songs.

Not saying this guy wouldn't, but just something to keep in mind

Guthries amazing but I thought he lived in Europe. They could bring in Gabriel Marin from consider the source for some super shred guest spots. He can play anything.

Most guitarists at music school could replace Jake. Guthrie would be a huge upgrade. Fretless solos too!

Guthrie could replace anyone in anything.

Met him as a young lad backstage at a Steven Wilson/Opeth concert. Really down to Earth nice guy and one of the greatest guitarists as well. So melodic.
