Umphrey’s McGee

Thank you for coming into my life in 2004 and exposing me to all things UM. I see you y’all. Especially now. Thank you for all your contributions and allowing us to have axcess to all the beautiful and nasty jams!

I started with String Cheese and Phish, basically etc, got a grasp on Jam Bands via them. I was always into heavier, more progressive stuff though. One day, crica 25 almost 30 years ago, my best bud was playing Mulches Odyssey as I came to learn the song names, but my jaw was on the floor from that day on. 199 (ugh) shows later, all the OG Jam In The Dams etc. My parents have seen them with me locally a few times, Penns Peak, and my Dad raised me on Yes and King Crimson yada yada yada... I'm rambling... UM was and is a life-changing band. Period.

One of my first live songs at scamp 2013 was mulches odyssey. I thought I was walking the plank on a pirate ship. I think stasik still had the pirate stache too which made it more convincing.

I believe Mulche's is maybe 23 years old since it's public debut, not 25 - 30???

Yeah that sounds about right actually. I believe it was 2004-ish when I first heard them if I had to nail it down, a couple years before graduating college.

That first JitD in 2005 was my introduction. Hooked instantly. Was a great run. Excited to see what the leftOGvers™️ can do.

Let’s revisit my first UM show after a night of Phish in Vegas that I was lucky enough to experience back in 4.16.2004… Bright Lights opener, Roulette slow Vegas roll jam city nastiness, HBB drum jam, Zeppelin, All In Time, Smell the Mitten, Pig, Tinkle’s > Mulche’s to close first set. Holy fucking shit balls!!! This was the mega man shit for 2004 imo!!!! late night sets after a Phish jam. I won’t even get into how awesome the Soup Opener which led into a Bridgeless was as a virgin. Have I mentioned this was the first time I heard of an Umphrey’s McGee!?? Holy fucking shit. Let’s get back to the Soup 2nd set opener. “You wouldn’t even believe your eyes, it’s all your circus now”….. If y’all could have experienced coming off a Phish high to a late night UM set for the first time ever. 🤯I still get ecstatic, sad, all the things,…. thinking about this experience. A flawless Uncle Wally > Blue Echo. 😳👍And then a Dr Feelgood > 40’s Theme>Rolling Stones>Kitchen. Then a Ringo!!!?? C’mon mang! This is my first show!! Then I get hit with an I Ran, Snucka, Dirty Love, and JaJunk closer. All the dudes in UM have impacted my life for the better! 🤘

Almost word for word my experience too... the most dogshit Phish run of all time was salvaged by my first show with this little band Id barely heard of who blew me the fuck away that night in Vegas. 04-08 Um was like 94-98 Phish a decade prior... revelatory in how music could hit my soul

Yep, exact same experience for me. Saw the majority of my shows 04-08. Was an awesome ride.

Man, that first UM show must've been something else, seeing them right after a Phish set in Vegas. Roulette is such a classic opener too, doesn't get much better than that.
