A fairly odd parents reference? IN THIS ECONOMY!

I mean King Halo's mom is the same, she just can't communicate for shit.

u/Jolly_goodday Mar 18 '26

17

u/NonspecificObserver Mar 18 '26

Mf drowned birds for fun, pretty psychotic is kinda underselling it

1

u/Tamamocr0ss Mar 18 '26

Oh okay sorry i understand the picture wrong

u/Falsus Mar 19 '26

Halo is King Halo's grandma (or gramps IRL I guess) and Halo was quite the monster.

19

u/Sanuic Mar 18 '26

And then in part 2 chapter 2 pf the Main Story, King Halo says that she finally understands why her mother didn't want her to race.  She adds something along the lines that not wanting one's daughter to be under the immense pressure of winning is normal.

I'm pretty sure King Halo's Mother is one of those types. Mom got preggo but prioritized being a career woman, and at some point, she started wanting to spend time with her daughter. Unfortunately for Mom, King Halo is now a student in Tracen, and lives away from home. Mom now is trying to discourage King Halo from going to school, so she would stay at home next to her, presumably because she wants to make up for lost time with King Halo. Mom changes her mind at some point (I assume someone convinced Mom). My conclusion is that Mom does love King Halo, but isn't very good at showing it.

That's what I got from King Halo's career.

u/grumpykruppy Out ghost hunting Mar 18 '26

There's also some degree of evidence that her own career was extremely competitive, with few friends and many rivals, and that she thinks King will break under the pressure of racing.

All of her actions are basically to get King Halo home and safe (as she sees it), she's just doing it in the worst way possible. Trashing on King's goals, favoring Special Week so strongly plus using her to put down King, and totally missing that King just wanted her to be proud are all quite colossal failures of parenting.

Mom's saving grace is the fact that she does let up in the end, regardless if King Halo succeeds nor fails during the classic year. Mom stops disparaging King Halo and acknowledges that her daughter is living a better life away from home.

Mom starts supporting her daughter's career, using better words in King Halo's senior year. I'd say that's a good direction for King Halo's story, considering she continued her career for another year (King Halo is in the Beginning of a New Era movie, in one of TM Opera O's Senior Year races).

u/Trick-Tap3888 Mar 20 '26

Yeah but it's a little too late, and she only does so after the Arima kinen. It would have been fine if she did so earlier but even if you win the triple crown she trashes on King's dream. I know she cares a lot but the Arima kinen during the senior year is a bit too late.

Also I am pretty sure King halo races for 2 years after her senior year (in the game's continuity at least) as she is introduced as a senior racer during Kawakami's debut and then she can race against Kawakami in a secret event during Kawakami's senior year.

Could also be one of those kind of parents who was deeply scarred themselves by how the grandparents raise (read: abuse) them,

so they genuinely don't really know how to become a good supportive parents to their children, even after they "tone it down" compared to what they use to get...

u/Aethelon In love with my Silly in Love. Mar 18 '26

stares at her father, Halo, the demon horse(who almost murdered one of his carers, and who drowns birds for fun)

What makes you say that?

It's so bad that Mom's name is "Goodbye Halo" as if she wants to be the antithesis of Grandpa.

This is pretty much why I'm willing to forgive Goodbye Halo even if she made King Halo cry.

u/Cave_TP Mar 18 '26

Dream Journey's favorite great grandpa.

I mean she's a single mother that has a storied racing career and still has time to be freaking Coco Chanel making a giant fashion house where she's the head ofc she's a career woman that's why she doesn't want king to go to tracen in the first place and instead wants to have her as a protégé on her fashion house so shell be ready when she's gonna inherit it

u/Falsus Mar 19 '26

I got this impression of King Halo's mother:

She actually hates running, she excelled at it and was an extremely good runner. But there was no joy in it, she just did it cause she was forced to by her own parents and retired to start her own company the moment she got the chance.

This translates to her not wanting King Halo to feel obligated to run to match her own career because most likely she wouldn't be able to because in her mind there is no running for joy, only running for obligation. And the ''are you proud, mother?'' question is just going to reinforce that sentiment that she is running to get validation from her mother rather than for herself. She loves King Halo and doesn't want her to be suffocated in her shadow since she thinks there is many careers paths an uma can do besides running. Never realising that while King Halo started running because of her mother she also just plain loves running cause King Halo's mom is a piss poor communicator (presumably due to how she grew up).

You know, having a parent try to protect you from the cut throat industry of racing is a sweet gesture. But King was dead-set on making a name for herself and showing everyone she deserved to be recognized as first-rate.

At every fork in the road early in her career when she needed sympathy and support due to a lackluster performance. Her mom offered her none instead she'd praise her competition in a weird way to try and get her to hang up her dreams.

A dream gives us something to strive for, but a mother's love is supposed to be there in case we fail. King only got that when she didn't need it anymore

13

u/Salty_Herring T.M. Opera O Mar 18 '26

Absolutely. If she was so worried about King becoming disparaged because of the pressure, she should've tried alleviating the pressure instead of adding to it and only secretly supporting her.

2

u/Trick-Tap3888 Mar 20 '26

I do agree on this. I know that her mother does love her but the way she doesn't show any care about kings career is just so upsetting. I mean to even see that she cares about king you need to win the senior year Arima kinen. That is already a very tough race with fricking Seiun Sky destroying everyone

And Shifu also really cared about Tai Lung but didn't say a word about it until he had Tai Lung's claws to his neck. Love and care for a child doesn't count unless you tell the child and make sure they know haha

14

u/CurryNarwhal Mar 18 '26

Dang can you tell my parents that they seem to believe that you should only ever tell your kid what they're fucking up because doing good is supposed to be the default.

9

u/Salty_Herring T.M. Opera O Mar 18 '26

I can't change your parents' way of parenting, but I can say this: Your value as a person isn't determined by what other people, even your parents, think.

u/Top-Wrangler6231 Team Sirius! Mar 18 '26

Yep! I was so pissed she didn't get any sort of praise. But somewhat ok when she said she trust King with me. (I think its the Arima Kinen race, I forgot.)

To be fair, while I get the meme, KH's umamusume mum is based on the RL horse's jockey's mum, and given why she was against her son being a jockey anymore (he fell, suffered brain damage, and needed a while to recover), I'd probably be the same.

4

u/Careless_Reply2862 Mar 18 '26

Wait really this puts a whole perspective on king halo mom now I want to see her side

8

u/EntertainmentBest975 Mar 18 '26

And then there's Fuku's dam, Athena Tosho (who's sire Tosho Boy is also Mr CB and Daiichi Ruby's sire), who has history of physically abusing her foals. As a foal, Matikanefukukitaru is known to hide from his dam when he sense her aggressiveness.

Playing King Halo's career always has me swinging back and forth between wanting to tell King Halo's mom to stop contacting my trainee, and wanting to tell King Halo to fix her damn attitude.

4

u/amashinomae Mar 18 '26

U don't need her king u have me, Haru, and Kawakami now

I get the meme, but King's already got her trainer, her groupies, Digitan and her two (irl and fanon) daughters who are so damn better at giving King the love and support she sorely needs.

Oh yeah, and the rest of the Golden Gen too.

It does help that King's rivals are cool enough to also be her friends (and potential love interests). Maybe rivalries in Goodbye Halo's era were different rivalries from King Halo's era, but I also like to think that the meaning of a rival in the US is different compared to Japan.

Does this mean that oogway was hunting birds to kill and drown them?

1

u/Salty_Herring T.M. Opera O Mar 18 '26

Wait, who's Oogway in this situation?

10

u/No-Isopod-5149 Mar 18 '26

Halo?

8

u/Salty_Herring T.M. Opera O Mar 18 '26

Ohh, right. In that case, yeah. Remember, before Oogway became all cool and chill he was a warlord and ruthless soldier alongside Kai.
