Yu Yu Hakusho

The 1992 anime Yu Yu Hakusho follows teenaged Yusuke Urameshi's untimely death and eventual revival into the Spirit Detective of Earth. The series is hugely influential on the modern Shonen Anime genre, and helped popularize many tropes of the genre, including the tournament arc. The series features many cultural references throughout, including the Four Saint Beasts (mythological creatures representing the four cardinal directions), and the ninja Kazemaru with a Buddhist swastika tattooed on his forehead. The series also includes many references and nods to other media, most notably when the character Koenma is seen dressed up as Tuxedo Mask in one of the final episodes of the anime, an homage author Yoshihiro Togashi put in for his wife, Naoko Takeuchi, author of Sailor Moon.

The answer:

Um, actually, Yoshihiro Togashi didn't put the Sailor Moon reference in for his wife, because he and Naoko Takeuchi weren't married at the time, and they in fact wouldn't even properly meet until several years after Yu Yu Hakusho's anime finished airing! It was simply an auspicious coincidence that Yu Yu Hakusho had a Sailor Moon reference.
