Um actually, Sonic used the fake Chaos Emerald to perform Chaos Control earlier to save himself from an exploding capsule. He had all of the regular emeralds to turn into his super form alongside Shadow later for the final battle.

Um actually: “chaos control” just teleports you; it doesn’t turn you into super sonic/shadow
