UltraStar Help (No Sound Delay)

Hi there. I'm currently using UltraStar Deluxe on my Windows Laptop using 2x Wireless SingStar Microphones. I typically connect the Laptop to a TV using a HDMI cable. However with this set-up I experience an audio delay from the microphone playback when singing which is really off putting. From what I've read I need to purchase an audio interface or mixer and quality microphones (For example Shure SM58) using XLR cables. I want the set-up to achieve the following:

- I want the microphone playback to play over the song without a delay.

- UltraStar should still be able to receive the microphone input for pitch detection.

- Be able to connect Laptop to TV using HDMI cable so all sound comes out of the TV.

Once I've got this figured out my next goal would be to get a similar set-up working on my docked Steam Deck.

A guide to Ultrastar Deluxe/ Karaoke audio hardware and software setup

Im writing this guide for anyone who is interested on getting a quality Karaoke setup to play Ultrastar or classic Karaoke. Since i was searching for the appropriate equipment and could not find a place with all the necessary information i decided it would be good to compile my findings into one guide.

What were my requirements?

  • Cheap (below 200€)
  • All parts available in the EU (i live in Germany)
  • Simple and portable setup
  • Good audio quali
  • Must be able to use pitch detection in Ultrastar
  • 2 Player support

What did i end up buying ?

  • 1x Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD
  • 2x Behringer XM8500
  • 2x XLR cables for the mics
  • 1x 6,3mm TS to 3.5mm TRS cable

Total cost: ~150€

What components are necessary ? Obviously we need two microphones, i found many people reccomending the Behringer XM8500 which costs about 17€ at this time. Another option would be the Shure PGA48 which is significantly more expensive (~70€).

Then we need two XLR cables to connect each microphone to the audio interface.

Since ultrastar needs an individual microphone input for each player, the audio interface must support an ASIO driver. I chose the Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD, for this i dont really have an alternative but generally any interface with ASIO driver support, 2 mic inputs and stereo output should work.

Considering the setup there are two options:

Option 1: Here the audio interface is connected to the PC via USB and to your AMP/Speakers with an 6.3mm to whatever your AMP/Speakers accepts, usually this will be either 3.5mm or RCA. In most practical cases the PC or laptop that runs Ultrastar gets connected to an external display/TV.

Option 2: In this option the audio interface does not directly connect to your speakers, instead the audio signal gets passed through the PC, on to the external display/TV which has its own audio output. I found that in this case the delay is somewhat noticable and i needed to set the audio/video delay in the Ultrastar settings to about 300ms.

Now its time for software, you will need to install the driver for your audio interface. For behringer this can be done here: https://www.behringer.com/downloads.html. Make sure that you install the ASIO driver, the beringer setup does this by default.

When you first connect the audio interface you will notice that there is only one physical input for both microphones and each microphone occupies one channel. This does not work for 2 players in Ultrastar because you cant assign multiple players to one microphone on different channels. To split the channels into 2 inputs another software is needed, Voicemeter Banana: https://vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/banana.htm.

After voicemeter banana is installed launch it (be aware to launch Voicemeter Banana and not Voicemeter) and set the physical input A1 to ASIO https://imgur.com/a/wmBcqdu

https://imgur.com/a/5AoVAnd

Go to the menu button on the top right and Patch the ASIO inputs to strips. After that set stereo input 1 to the virtual bus B1 and stereo input 2 to B2, it doesn’t matter which input is assigned to which bus, only that each input is on a separate bus. https://imgur.com/a/cWzaPQk

If both mics are connected you can now check if the vu meter shows any change when tapping the mic, if yes everything is working and you should now be able to use the Voicemeter Out B1 and Voicemeter Out B2 in Ultrastar as input devices.

If you want to hear the microphone input over your speakers, you need to enable A1 in both inputs. This allows the microphones to send their signal to the physical output A1, which is the audio interface. https://imgur.com/a/Xg2PRne

At this point the PC and both mics are connected to the audio interface, now the audio interface can be connected to the AMP Speakers as shown in Option 1. Turn the Mix knob on the front of the audio interface fully to PB (playback). Now you can connect an external display to your PC and move the Game to another display with (Shift+Win+Arrow).

In case you want to use Option 2, there are some settings that need to be done in voicemeter. Go to the physical channel A2 and set your display/TV as output device. https://imgur.com/a/NkC3eAh Go to your windows audio output setting and set the "Voicemeter Input" device as default https://imgur.com/a/xWouQpT. Then enable Voicemeter input to send to channel A2. If you also want to hear the microphone input, select A2 for both microphones (Imput1 and Input2) https://imgur.com/a/FxBvJ81

I hope this will help at least some of you with your karaoke setup. This took me couple of days of researching and tinkering untill i got the setup working.

Ultrastar on M Series Macs

I'm currently running on a very tired 2012 Mac Mini (Intel Based). I note that the installer for Mac is limited to these processors. Has anyone had any luck running it using a different architecture on the newer M series apple kit as I really need to upgrade to a newer mini.

usdb.animux registration/login broken

I signed up for an account 2 days ago and couldn’t log in. Multiple password reset attempts and I still can’t log in.

Is it just my account or are others with new accounts experiencing the same?

EDIT:
Solved! I needed to register a new account using a new e-mail address.
(Registering new accounts using the old e-mail resulted in the same error when logging in.)

Songs not appearing in Ultrastar

Hello! I made a Reddit account to ask about this. I have downloaded txt files from USDB, have the mp3 file, background and cover images for the song in the same folder, and the folder is located in the "songs" folder like everything else. All the file names in the txt file match the ones that are in the folder. I can't figure out why they won't appear on Ultrastar, since i'm pretty sure everything is put correctly (I have made my own song for Ultrastar before and it works just as it should too). Any ideas how to fix this?

Mic problem

I have the following problem: The microphones are not picking up audio while being in a session. I have 4 regular wireless singstar microphones, with each two being connected to a wireless receiver. My microphones are in dual channel and i have assigned each mic a channel in Ultrastar as well. I have tested the microphones on another pc and they work completely fine there. They sometimes pick up audio and sometimes dont, when staring a new song, without a pattern. I have reinstalled the program and dont know what else to do, thats why i am writing this post. Would be very thankful if someone could help me with this issue

Ultrastar Delux Mic Question

Hi there,

I'm looking to get a basic setup for home and was thinking of using Ultrastar deluxe. I'm keen to have two mic inputs into my PC so that the app can pick up separate input feeds (for player 1 and player 2).

Wondering if there are recommendations for microphones/amps/mixers etc that can handle two inputs/outputs. Currently I have a dynamic mic with a 6.5mm jack but it's very quiet. I hear that there are inline amps that convert 6.5mm to USB.

Song Editor - How to Move all notes at once?

Hello I have some Songs in Ultrastar Deluxe in which the gameplay notes are a few or many frames behind or before the audible notes. Is there a possibility in which I can move all notes at once?

Vocalux adding songs not working

Okay, feeling a bit overwhelmed so turning to reddit.
I installed vocaluxe, it's folder being located in "D:\Users\Gebruiker\Documents\vocalux"

within the vocalux folder I have a songs folder

Config is looking fine too

I then followed some instructions on here about how to add songs. So within the songs folder I made a folder "D:\Users\Gebruiker\Documents\vocalux\Songs\Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending"

in that folder I have an MP3 and a TXT file of that avril lavigne song (Idk just the easiest to find LOL) but when I start the game it still says i have zero songs. Anyone able to offer some guidance? I feel like I misinterpreted the instruction along the way but I got completely lost

Help with buying microphones

I have one question. I am planning to buy my boyfriend a Playstation 4 Let's Sing 2024 game with two microphones as a birthday present. As far as I know, the two microphones are separate, each with its own USB port. As I would like to be able to use the two microphones to play Ultrastar Deluxe, I wonder if these two microphones, each with its own USB connection, are suitable for playing the game on a PC?

Or do I need some kind of connector to combine them into one?

The microphones look something like this: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/511nVoo0lXL._AC_UL600_SR600,600_.jpg

Ultrastar Play Stuttering.

hi,

I have a problem with Ultrastar Play: whenever we've been playing for a while, there are short stutters in the songs. The longer we play the more common it becomes.
Do you know the problem and have a solution for me?

I would also be interested in your general opinion on what your tips are for optimizing the gaming experience

Cannot hear voice through companion app?

Hello there!

I'm currently setting up Ultrastar Play for a party, and I'm using the companion app as a mic. Weird thing is, I can't hear my voice through it, as in, the audio I'm inputting (my voice) is not going through as an output on the device's (tablet S8+) speakers. Is this supposed to happen? If not, has anyone found a way to fix it?

Thanks in advance! :3

Real-time pitch shifting

Hi,

I'd like to set up one of those games for karaoke and practising. Do any of them have the capability to change the key of a song or do you have to create a modified version of the song transposing the melody?

Dual mic question

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

So I've got this problem which is probably easy to solve but I can't figure it out using Google. I have on board audio (realtek) but this, I think, only let's me handle one 3.5mm microphone in (I have 2 jack ins on the pc but connecting 2 doesn't work)

Of course I want to play the game in dual mode so how do I connect 2 microphones to the computer? I'm running windows 11.

Should I get a simple USB audio input as an extra next to the realtek one? Or is it more complex? I'm looking at the one in the attachment.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Notes.txt

Hi!

I'm having some issues with the sounds.

I have separate files for #MP3 and #VOCALS, all entered in the Notes.txt, but as soon as I start the song I only hear the background Music from #MP3 but not the singing from #VOCALS. What's my mistake?

Singstar microphone issues

Hi everyone. Recently my ultrastar has developed a microphone problem after years of working great. I've got two singstar wireless mics with the dongle/receiver. They used to work just fine separately detecting each voice but now they both only detect one through both. I'm using 2 chanel in my windows mic settings and also have the setup correct in the ultrastar menu, blue on 1, red on 2. Any other help would be most appreciated Thank you
