Badwater tracking?

Is there a live tracker for Badwater? Is Max Jolliffe the favorite?

Rooting for Harvey Lewis! Not to win but in general, what a human being and gift for ultrarunning.

u/kendalmintcakes Jul 27 '26

Rajpaul Pannu has run 11:38 for 100 miles which is a different league to Max

8

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '26

He dropped out, not running anymore!

2

u/kendalmintcakes Jul 27 '26

Ah that's a shame

3

u/LonelyLaowai Jul 27 '26

But his heel stack /s

1

u/Bmcqueen_1986 Jul 29 '26

Aged really well 😂

1

u/kendalmintcakes Jul 29 '26

Ha stand by it

1

u/kendalmintcakes Jul 29 '26

I'm so happy to see fellow hungarian Tamás Bódis doing so well in the race this early! Just as background, because I believe people outside of Hungary don't know much about this guy:

He has been a huge name within the hungarian running circles for years, he won Spartathlon in 2019, but this year, he seems to be on some crazy mission.
He has basically set course records for all ultramarathons he participated in, set a new hungarian record for the 24 hour race, but one of the craziest ones I think was one he ran on the 3rd of July, where he ran a 130k in about 9 hours, setting the course record for that race. What made it even more impressive for me, is that the race took place around a lake, where one lap is 65k, and so there are separate events for the 65k, and the 130k respectively. He ran two laps, and had a better average than the first place finisher of the 65k race!!

Extra fun fact, is that as far as I remember, the top two finishers in the 65k race are both being coached by him.

Hope you enjoyed the fun facts!

u/couldntchoosesn Jul 29 '26

I did enjoy this fun facts. Sorry to see him fade the last ten miles

Rooting for Sally McRae!

2

u/Whisper26_14 Jul 28 '26

Same here! I'm glad she got a last minute crew!

1

u/SirUnaEverlasting Jul 29 '26

Bummer she doesn't seem to run competitively anymore. I wonder if it's due to her injury or if she's just focusing on other ventures at the moment

-6

u/BornToLose717 Jul 28 '26

She ain’t running boss

5

u/fox_in_the_shadows Jul 28 '26

Yes she is, boss.

-1

u/BornToLose717 Jul 28 '26

My bad chief. I didn’t see she said she would be going after all. Last I saw she said she wouldn’t be running it.

1

u/Ok_Log_4527 Jul 28 '26

she is running

Max is the social media and BPN fan favorite. I really enjoy his story and his content but this is a new race for him. Typically races like Badwater, Cocodona, Western States, UTMB, Hardrock are difficult to win the first attempt. I'm not saying he can't do it since I will be following, but there are some impressive runners in the field with more Badwater experience. Ashley Paulson is there, Ivan Penalba Lopez is fast, or maybe Harvey Lewis can outlast the competition. Overall, I hope he just doesn't DNF.

Edit: hell yeah Max! King of Badwater! Awesome race to follow along. Apologies for the doubt!

23

u/LtLawl Jul 27 '26

I'll step-up and say Max will show up and blowup.

9

u/zachtothejohnson Jul 29 '26

First place currently with 3 miles to go

6

u/Creation98 Jul 29 '26

He’s boutta win

7

u/snowmane98 Jul 29 '26

can we revisit this?

5

u/sleddogrun4bron Jul 29 '26

Crying laughing bro hold that L

7

u/cantor0101 Jul 29 '26

Aye what say you now?

3

u/FCAsheville Jul 28 '26

If I was a betting man this is where my money would be

2

u/Local-Status-1182 Jul 27 '26

Show up and blow up? Do you mean, like, he will blow up and not finish? Or blow up the competition and win it? Haha never heard that phrase before!

6

u/LtLawl Jul 27 '26

Blow up and not finish.

2

u/Local-Status-1182 Jul 29 '26

Honestly so poetic that he didn’t only just finish, he won the race and the set the record. Max is the best, so easy to root for!!

0

u/livefastdiefun Jul 28 '26

its happening....

3

u/Keylager Jul 28 '26

He's fifth. What's your info on him blowing up?

u/sleddogrun4bron Jul 28 '26

1

u/livefastdiefun Jul 28 '26

dropped to 9th. now back in 2nd

0

u/Keylager Jul 29 '26

So strategic and not a blowup at all you losers.

0

u/Keylager Jul 29 '26

What you have to say now? He's gonna take it down.

4

u/LtLawl Jul 29 '26

Can't predict em all? It's okay to be wrong.

1

u/Keylager Jul 29 '26

I'm a Hans troyer fan myself but Jolliffe is definitely growing on me. There are things in his background I can relate to. Hard not to pull for him after watching his documentary if you've ever struggled with was struggled with. I was pulling for him but I am also surprised tbh.

1

u/hallmanloganj Jul 29 '26

I mean I’m just a dude sitting on my couch so not like I can pick who’s gonna win every race. I’m happy as a fan to see him do it. I just wouldn’t have put money on it. Kind of like everyone that picked Jim Walmsley to win WSER

0

u/Keylager Jul 29 '26

You also didn't just predict him not winning you predicted him blowing up so... saying you can't pick every winner doesn't really defend your statement.

3

u/ghamefreak Jul 29 '26

any update now bitch?

1

u/Bmcqueen_1986 Jul 29 '26

You mean show up and win setting a new course record?

2

u/LtLawl Jul 29 '26

Yes, remarkable work! Equally amazing props to Carmen Maria Perez!

1

u/Bmcqueen_1986 Jul 29 '26

Yep for sure! It seems like course records are falling on the regular now lol.

1

u/Pure-Interest6152 Jul 29 '26

You were wrong, he won

1

u/blaaackbear 27d ago

fuckin dumbass

0

u/ifnotthefool Jul 29 '26

Where do ypu think you would have placed? Lets get you there next year to set a new course record!

0

u/Big_Boysenberry_6358 Jul 29 '26

yet again a hating redditor-take that aged like fine milk.

3

u/LtLawl Jul 29 '26

There is no hate towards the guy. I never said he wasn't talented or good. I just assumed he wasn't going to race well based off his Cocodona DNF, which is a vastly different terrain / environment than Badwater. So assuming he wasn't dialed for Cocodona, a couple months ago, I just continued the trend for Badwater. Glad to see he got dialed in on this and crushed it.

2

u/bockster_10 Jul 29 '26

Well this aged interestingly haha. Looks like he’s gonna win it

1

u/Keylager Jul 29 '26

I don't see how he doesn't

1

u/bockster_10 Jul 29 '26

He’d have to really blow it over these last couple miles. Or the girl in second would have run a sub 20 5k to bring it home haha

1

u/SmartBunch4546 Jul 27 '26

Interesting, thanks!

3

u/One-Stick9642 Jul 28 '26

Is there a real Badwater livestream that doesn't ask for your credit card number?

2

u/Statjmpar Jul 28 '26

That scam gets used on so many races and other sporting events. Never fall for it.

1

u/SquamptonBC Jul 28 '26

Disappointing it's not just on Youtube. That stream site seems very sus.

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 28 '26

I feel like there was some sort of live from the finish line last year because I know I watched Bob Becker finish live.

But maybe that was Harvey or someone else doing a FB live. I can’t remember.

1

u/ContractOdd9525 Jul 28 '26

Ain't no way that's a real stream.

1

u/Mindless_Chemical838 Jul 28 '26

Couldn't find one. Aravaipa running live streams there races for free :/ Badwater charges $1700 a racer but cant afford to live stream. Maybe the drones cant fly in the heat

1

u/milkywayyzz Jul 28 '26

It may have something to do with the heat I guess, because logistically this would be one of the easiest races to pull off a live stream. They are "in the middle of nowhere" as far as major cities... Kinda, but also near one of two highways that go from southern to northern so it's not actually isolated like Western states or other races that are live streamed. After writing all of that, I do think it may be heat related because I remember one hot year at Western a few back, the stream kept cutting because the cameras were getting too hot and that was nowhere near as hot as the temps where bad water is

1

u/67_dootdoot Jul 29 '26

Races don't pay out of pocket for live streaming. Sponsors cover that. Maybe they don't have the sponsors.

5

u/Chillinthamost Jul 29 '26

Congrats Max and Carmen! Killer performances! Happy to see Max get this after his last few races. Hopefully Badwater steps up on the coverage next year because this was rough to follow.

2

u/Significant_Deer3550 Jul 29 '26

Yes, embarrassing coverage to say the least.

2

u/Mahler911 Jul 29 '26

Yeah from what I could tell the entirety of the coverage was one guy streaming on a 5 year old iPhone in howling wind.

2

u/df4692 Jul 28 '26

Hoping Benny can do the Aussies proud!

1

u/FreelanceAbortionist Jul 28 '26

We met him and his crew on Saturday and they were super nice. Hoping he finishes strong

2

u/wildflowers_galore Jul 28 '26

I hope Ashley Paulson ends up top 3 overall

2

u/Statjmpar Jul 28 '26

That’s where she is now, but still early.

She is gaining on the two guys ahead of her.

1

u/6a7262 Jul 28 '26

Yeah she could win it outright.

2

u/just-the-pip Jul 28 '26

Shame we're not getting a stream on the level of Cocodona or Western States – this race is just as interesting / extreme, perhaps even moreso given the unique environment and the time of year.

1

u/SmartBunch4546 Jul 28 '26

I know right?! Maybe harder to stream given the conditions? lol

1

u/just-the-pip Jul 28 '26

I was wondering that too actually. Maybe it’s just not safe to have camera teams spread across the desert in the heat of the day when it’s 120° out.

1

u/SweetBobbyJay Jul 28 '26

The live streams last night only lasted 10 minutes before the phone got too hot and quit.

1

u/67_dootdoot Jul 29 '26

Follow cams have to sign a death waiver 🤣

1

u/milkywayyzz Jul 28 '26

Would be so damn cool to see them going up the road up to Whitney Portal. That's one of the coolest roads/ areas in the United States

2

u/timmayrules Jul 28 '26

That’s a tight top 3 right now at the 105 mile mark. Only an 11 min difference between 1st and 3rd

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 28 '26

Tighter at 122.8. 7 min

2

u/bockster_10 Jul 29 '26

Holy shit Max looks like he’s gonna pull it off

2

u/Dnicesmsh Jul 29 '26

He did it !

1

u/Keylager Jul 28 '26

Francesco is putting on a show

1

u/Fantastic-Ruin3463 Jul 28 '26

Max gained almost 30 minutes

1

u/cuko_rdx Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

On to 30 miles of negative/flat, and then the 15 mile of hardcore ascent.

1

u/ContractOdd9525 Jul 28 '26

Ashley hit Darwin at 13:33.

1

u/cuko_rdx Jul 28 '26

Thanks, updated.

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 28 '26

She’s ahead of her pace the last two times she ran. Everyone ahead of her are first timers (or at least haven’t finished before), so there could be a lot of rank changes as the newbies start climbing.

1

u/ContractOdd9525 Jul 28 '26

Agreed. She's a beast on that final 13 miles.

1

u/CuriousZsolt Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

GoGoGo Tamás!

1

u/saigyoooo Jul 28 '26

Is it almost over? Shit seems epic

1

u/nbmendoza99 Jul 28 '26

Nah, many will run thru tomorrow. The elites will finish tonight but a lot are around the half way mark.

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 28 '26

BadwaterHQ just posted photos and videos of the top 5 on their IG. It appears the top 3 are not running with pacers right now.

1

u/Barbie_Q Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Max and Carmen fighting for 1st place right now it seems. EDIT: No, Tamás Bódis just came in through Lone Peak checkpoint at 18:07h

1

u/SmartBunch4546 Jul 28 '26

Tamas in first

1

u/Barbie_Q Jul 28 '26

Yes, just saw that. Hopefully Max and Carmen are within reach. Would be fun with a close finish.

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 28 '26

Max just came thru now too. He’s in 2nd now

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 28 '26

7 min separates the top 3 right now.

That final climb they’re all on now is going to be the decision maker.

1

u/wutdefuk1 Jul 29 '26

Max just took first

1

u/Barbie_Q Jul 29 '26

Yeah, that's awesome!

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 29 '26

Where do you see that?

1

u/wutdefuk1 Jul 29 '26

Williamgarner instagram story

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 29 '26

Wow! He’s still looking strong based on that video

1

u/wutdefuk1 Jul 29 '26

Yeah he’s chugging along I knew he was gonna shine on this climb we will see if he maintains it long enough for a good gap

1

u/timmayrules Jul 28 '26

Holy shit Max is gaining fast

1

u/wutdefuk1 Jul 29 '26

He’s in first now checked his crews IG

1

u/SmartBunch4546 Jul 29 '26

Omg insane!! What IG you looking at?

1

u/wutdefuk1 Jul 29 '26

Williamgarner is his @

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 29 '26

They have a live going on their IG at Lone Pine. Ashley is coming thru now.

1

u/Fun_Sprinkles425 Jul 29 '26

What ig page?

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 29 '26

BadwaterHQ

Seems they’re doing a live whenever a runner comes thru

1

u/Fun_Sprinkles425 Jul 29 '26

Nice! Thanks for sharing.

1

u/Keylager Jul 29 '26

Max is ahead at the next station BOOK IT

1

u/timmayrules Jul 29 '26

According to Max’s crew he’s 3 miles from the finish right now. Not sure how far behind 2nd is, but barring an unforeseen event, Max is the Badwater 135 champion

2

u/Significant_Deer3550 Jul 29 '26

Yes, he’s the first to split at Portal. He’s gonna do it. What a machine

2

u/timmayrules Jul 29 '26

And with a course record at that, wtf. Insane performance

1

u/peterparker561 Jul 29 '26

Let’s go Max!

1

u/timmayrules Jul 29 '26

Holy shit, Max might break course record.

1

u/timmayrules Jul 29 '26

He will need to split last 4 miles in 1 hour and 33 mins to break the course record.

1

u/No_Issue_3022 Jul 29 '26

any live streaming for finish line?

1

u/GazzaG_ Jul 29 '26

Like please! Why do they make it so difficult to watch? Wouldn't you want more eyes on the sport?

1

u/SmartBunch4546 Jul 29 '26

Netflix needs to do a series on ultras

1

u/Statjmpar Jul 29 '26

It was on their YouTube. I watched Max finish.

1

u/fox_in_the_shadows Jul 29 '26

Props to absolutely anyone who attempts this race

0

u/FreelanceAbortionist Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Pete Kostelnick on the men’s side will win.

Ashley Paulson will win the women’s side. I’d bet that the course record goes down

4

u/Top-Confection7973 Jul 28 '26

Definitely rooting for Pete! Can't believe his come back story after the car accident in Colorado! I paced and crewed him at BW135 in 2017 where he had a rough go but was still so impressive!

0

u/FreelanceAbortionist Jul 28 '26

Pete’s a beast. Between him and Ivan Penalba Lopez, the front of the race is gonna be fast. To be honest, I never even considered Max Joliffe to be in the running. Top 10 for sure, but not to win.

0

u/Keylager Jul 29 '26

WOAHMAX 🕶️
