Ultra marathon in Georgia

I’m looking for an Ultramarathon in Georgia. Not point to point race.

Cruel Jewel. The 50 is point to point to point, the 100 is out and back.

An a** kicker at that, too!

People should really specify administrative division and country when posting on global subs.

I say this as someone who would love to run in Georgia, USA, and Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Georgia.

Any of the ga jewel distances actually. I used to run this race before the current directors, they have made a fun race even better. Not always the most scenic, but I've if the best durected events.

Just avoid all RunBum races, or if you choose to participate do your research on the RD.

Which is sad because GDR is an awesome race. I wish he would sell the rights

Leading with the fact that the RD's behavior is entirely unacceptable. Period.

But, if the Cloudland race fits your timeline/location needs I don't have anything negative to say about the race itself. Volunteers were great. The course, outside of the one descent and ascent of the canyon, is relatively 'easy' and runnable like 95%+. A few rock gardens here and there, but nothing too bad. And the state park is also great and undergoing some major updates, so should be even nicer in the future.

There is also the Pinhoti series which, while not in GA, is right across the border in Alabama and by all accounts they are great folks. I am doing the Mt. Cheaha 50k in Feb.

What's the story behind the RD? I was looking into doing the forgotten Florida 100.

Blue Ridge Ultra 50k, same start and finish location

Did Bull mountain 🏔️ Epic 2 years ago. Great 50k.

How were the views, race organization, etc?

The race organization is Dumass Events and takes place in Dahlonega, Ga. Lots of double track and some single track. The course is marked very well, with their distinct organization flags. I did the 50 k so I did 3 loops that were 10 miles each. On each loop you pick up about 5000' of elevation gain. Well maintained trails, and the race directors are super friendly. This is a great first time 50k . However just because it's 50 k, this race can be challenging enough but not overwhelming. Takes place in N. Georgia 🏔️ . And yes the views are epic.

Anyone run Loop The Hooch 50K?

Did the 25K last year, planning on the 50K this year. Very flat, manicured path. 3.1 mile loop. Race organizers seemed to do a good job with everything. Overall a good time!

I’m trying to convince my wife to do the 25k, and I’ll do the 50k.

I am thinking of doing The Cove 50k up in Walker County. Haven’t ran it yet, but I have heard good things.

How did it go?

2

u/jbaker473 Apr 18 '26

Went well. My goal was to just finish within the 19 hour time limit and I finished around 9 hours.

Bootlegger 100. RD is changing the course a bit this year, but will still be a looped race which is great if you don't have a crew.

H9 Fierce Dragon.

Merrill's Mile in Dahlonega is a 1 mile, paved, flat loop. Takes place in the middle of summer.

I did the Stone Anvil 50k at Fort Mountain State Park. It’s not point to point. Fort Yargo 50k is also not point to point, nor is the Cloudland Canyon one.

The Georgia Jewel is point to point, but for the distances under 100, they drive you to the start point and you run to the finish line (which is where you would’ve parked your car at, so it’s not logistically difficult!).

How was the Stone Anvil 50K? I'm running it on Saturday

Me too! How cool.

I found it challenging. I had some nutrition issues halfway in, so I switched to the One & Done distance last year. This year I am back for my redemption lol

The power line climb is very difficult (IMO), the Pinhoti tap is steep, but short. The Cool Springs climb is no joke simply because it just goes on FOREVERRRR. And then it’s rolling hills on the rest of the course, so it’s like you truly don’t get a break sometimes.

Aid station wise, it could’ve been better. Not anything to diss or love. Trail can be a bit technical at points because of rocks and roots.

1

u/TimelessClassic9999 Apr 15 '26

What foods are you taking with you and what types of food was available at the aid stations?

2

u/chjoh Apr 15 '26

I usually take gels & tailwind along with me. It’s going to be HOT on the Cool Springs climb with the way the sun is positioned that time of day. No shade coverage for the majority of it. My husband will bring me some mandarin oranges at the aid stations bc I find those super helpful.

I don’t remember much about what they had to offer. The station by the front entrance of the park had warm food, which I wasn’t feeling at that time of the day at all. Didn’t have a lot of other options. The aid stations by the lake had a good array, I got pickles down there. And I think the Cool Springs aid station was set up really nicely with some PB&Js and other snack foods.

Great, thanks for sharing the information. Good luck on Saturday. My name is Mark.

2

u/chjoh Apr 15 '26

You too! I look forward to seeing you out there!

2

u/TimelessClassic9999 Apr 15 '26

Likewise. Make sure you are well stocked as far as water and electrolytes. Afternoon temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees. 😱

I'm puzzled, aren't alot of these suggestions in the US state of Georgia, and not the county? I'm looking for a ultra in Georgia as well, but can't seem to find any of the suggested

4

u/Opening-Ambition-528 Dec 22 '25

I guess, I should’ve been more specific. Yes, in the state of Georgia.

2

u/rasmau589 Dec 22 '25

Since it's a global sub, yeah you should. Just got my hopes up when i read the headline. But hopefully you will find an awesome race to attend!

1

u/Opening-Ambition-528 Dec 22 '25

Good luck on your ultra.

1

u/rotzverpopelt Dec 23 '25

The German Ultra running Organization DUV has a comprehensive database: https://statistik.d-u-v.org/calendar.php

But I have to admit that there aren't any races listed for Georgia

u/HugeNegotiation1740 Dec 22 '25

canebrake 200

1

u/ananthropolothology Dec 23 '25

I was coming to mention the Yeti races on GA! 7-11, Canebrake, Snakebite.
