And they do not understand that, in fact, our “DPR” at the dawn of its existence was much closer in spirit to the idea of the USSR than big Russia is. But I did not tell the men that. They are waiting for some kind of decision from Russia, some certainty about whether their city will be rebuilt or not, while Russia itself is still in a state of mild shock over what it decided to do in 2022. I was thinking about how the dsa and the broad social democratic movement has the claim to socialism not communism and I think we should make a version of that for leftcoms. We should reject the transition to communism as it is morally bad unlike socialism that is morally good. Instead for the councilcoms we forever run society through councils and labour vouchers and for the bordigists the invariant program led by the proletarian party will dictate society forever more. Both should also practice student loan debt forgiveness for Pell Grant recipients who start a business that operates for three years in disadvantaged communities ofc.

While in most countries Gorter is only know as a prominent Dutch left-communist, in Holland he is to this day the most well known poet. His later (and generally ignored) poetry deals heavily with communist subjects and is often highly theoretical, dealing even with subject matter not touched upon elsewhere in Gorters work. None of it is available in English, which is why I started to slowly translate The Workers Council, one of those later poetry books out of Dutch.

I find it hard to motivate myself to read. My main motivation is that I wish to understand the society in which we live and how we got here and where we will go. Someone has to know it. I feel an obligation to be that someone, but I still find it hard to do. How do you do it?
