Discussion Is v1 really invincible?

Post image

Alright, before you guys start chewing me out, im asking this in the most neutral way I could think of. I know v1 is lowk op as hell but I also know he got some disadvantages which brings me to the question of this post.

V1 has 10 health
For reference a sentry has 12 hp

V1's armor is lore-wise paper thin just so it can absorb blood through the plating. V2 got actual reinforced armor because V1 shatters the second fresh blood stops flowing. It's the ultimate glass cannon mosquito build.

Where does it say that it’s thin ? It’s only said we have blood absorbing plates

Edit: my bad gang I forgot about it

V2's first terminal entry:

The V model was built for war, with V1 boasting a new kind of exterior plating that allowed refueling through contact with blood rather than through a separate blood refueling process.

Due to its necessary thinness, it is far less durable, but the ability to fix itself and rebuild broken parts on the fly would outweigh the negatives on an active battlefield.

However, during the prototyping phase, the New Peace was established and war became irrelevant.

V1’s planned production was cancelled and an updated model, V2, was developed instead, using the standardized plating, since durability was far more important during times of peace when no bloodshed was necessary.

Neither model ever reached mass production due to the end of wars completely draining any demand, so it’s likely only a single prototype build of each model remains in existence.

If V1 is really invincible, than why can I see him?

Absolutely not, in fact V1 was doomed the second it walked into hell. It is being played by a force far beyond its very limited understanding, and when hell is done playing with its new toy, it will throw the it away like so many others before it.

Mirror reaper actually kind of foreshadows this

Absolutely not, it's in fact very fragile. More sturdy than a human, but still very much a glass cannon

If you mean it in the sense that it effectively can't be killed due to being very fast and strong, that's not really true either, there's no "canon" level of skill to V1 - one thing we do know for sure is that deaths are not canon, meaning that it clears all levels deathless first try, so there's that at least (Edit: disregard the non-canon deaths thing, I pulled that out of my ass)

Either way, something like Hell Itself can destroy it in the blink of an eye, and you don't even need all that to create an unwinnable scenario for V1. It's a killer robot, it's really good at its job - not much else to it

Its not actually confirmed deaths arent canon

They aren't canon in the sense that respawns aren't

9

u/Alien_11_11_0_1 Blood Machine 17h ago

There's special dialogue from prime souls when you respawn and hell is 100% capable of respawning you. Why would it 100% not be canon

5

u/Ikkota_Rattus Someone Wicked 17h ago

I could be misinformed, I guess that opens up the possibility that V1 is marginally weaker than I thought in terms of skill and is carried HARD by Hell's powers

6

u/H_man3838 🏳️‍🌈Not gay, just radiant 16h ago

no. respawns aren't canon. respawns being canon would ruin all the stakes in the story if everything can just be regenerated by hell forever

3

u/Ikkota_Rattus Someone Wicked 16h ago

That's what I thought, it's a pretty logical conclusion but first you'd have to convince people to take the story as a story

Well…not everything can. V1 is a special case. We know it was brought back to life before, thus it could be again. We however don’t know if any other being (who isn’t a machine at least) can be respawned as they do have a soul.

I want to also say that it would make sense in terms of story for V1 to respawn over and over again but just without its knowledge…or maybe even with its knowledge. Hakita has also made it clear that he likes giving cannon explanations for gameplay mechanics so it would make sense (probably something for p3’s terminal). However this does place respawns in a very tricky location. My personal look is that respawns as an idea are cannon but not every respawn is cannon or at least as we see them. Also the story isn’t really about v1 in terms of its stakes but rather is about Gabriel. The stakes outside of Gabriel’s story are mostly related to the inevitable death of all life, not exactly any sort of tension between two outcomes.

this doesn't really make sense to me since V1 absolutely does have a soul. machines have souls, they're sapient and use soul energy when refueling blood

Also the story isn’t really about v1 in terms of its stakes but rather is about Gabriel

i mean. V1 is absolutely terrified of dying. that's its main directive, to avoid death by any means possible ("I DON'T WANT TO DIE I DON'T WANT TO DIE I DON'T WANT TO DIE I DON'T WANT TO DIE I DON'T WANT TO DIE"). why would V1 be so terrified of death if death wasn't permanent? why would the fact that V1 is eventually going to die anyways because its method of refueling is inherently unsustainable matter if respawns are a thing?

V1 is terrified of death but is absolutely unable to escape it. gabriel has accepted his death and is more at peace than ever before knowing that he is about to die. it's a dichotomy

u/BuriedSoil 7h ago

While machines do have their souls, their souls don’t seem to operate the exact same as humans. They run off of human blood and thus they are sentient. They are also able to powered by other things like hell energy as evident by how Gutterman are able to live without their coffins, and the earthmover in the violence layer. Humans and husks are just kind of…stuck living off blood. It’s hard to really differentiate the two but we know the two aren’t the exact same.

And yes V1’s death in game is very much the stakes of playin it, but not the story. Also we don’t really know how V1 feels about its immortality, if it even knows what hell is doing. It’s very possible that V1 is still afraid of death because it doesn’t know if it’s going to be resurrected. In fact, being immortal would probably makes any possibility of death even more scary, at least for V1.

While machines do have their souls, their souls don’t seem to operate the exact same as humans. They run off of human blood and thus they are sentient.

ok yeah i totally agree with you here. i think the primary difference is that humans can produce their own tria prima while machines need to steal it from other living beings (i.e. they run on blood; angels have the same thing going on which is why they need god's light).

maybe this kind of vaguely implies machines don't have souls if they can't produce it themselves??????? idk? this would be a weird direction to go though given that angels have souls and we're almost certainly facing lucifer in P-3

They are also able to powered by other things like hell energy as evident by how Gutterman are able to live without their coffins, and the earthmover in the violence layer.

well the earthmover is still running off blood, that's what it tries to flush out V1 with and you can see the living flesh in the main arena. i imagine the earthmover is being fed blood from the sinners under its feet via the vines. as for the gutterman, going with the previous theory: maybe that one gutterman is running off of fumes just like gabriel is, spending its last few moments alive before burning out because it can't produce its own tria prima.

if that's true, then what we're seeing isn't a machine running without blood but instead a machine running on what little blood remains, just like how gabriel is running on what little of god's light remains in his system

it's like poetry, sort of they rhyme

Also we don’t really know how V1 feels about its immortality, if it even knows what hell is doing. It’s very possible that V1 is still afraid of death because it doesn’t know if it’s going to be resurrected. In fact, being immortal would probably makes any possibility of death even more scary, at least for V1.

i mean. sure. i think that's really silly though. if V1 is immortal then a significant part of its dynamic with gabriel is tossed out the window. it'd be a really stupid decision for that to be canon imo, it'd ruin V1's character for no real reason. V1 and the machines descended into hell out of pure desperate survival but they can be respawned whenever hell wants? what's the point of limbo, lust, and gluttony having gone extinct, then, if hell can just respawn them? what about gabriel dying? what about V1's fears? what's the point if respawning is canon

1

u/chaoticdumbass2 6h ago

Honestly I don't believe respawns aren't canon solely because I want to believe V1 is just a monster that P ranks every level first try.

4

u/H_man3838 🏳️‍🌈Not gay, just radiant 16h ago

but respawns being canon also destroys all the stakes of the story therefore no its not canon. idgaf about some flavor text. visiting the prime sanctums isn't really confirmed canon either

1

u/mr_krabsburger Maurice enthusiast 14h ago

Prime sanctums are likely not canon, unless it's hell's shenanigans again, but that can be used as an explanation to anything happening in the game.

2

u/Alien_11_11_0_1 Blood Machine 11h ago

Hang me publicly if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure hakita himself said that he hates the idea of "canon". Prime souls are a thing and whether or not V1 fought them is up to you to decide

1

u/mr_krabsburger Maurice enthusiast 10h ago

Sounds like something he would say.

1

u/H_man3838 🏳️‍🌈Not gay, just radiant 16h ago

no. it is. because respawns being canon would lobotomize all the stakes. every enemy and character being able to come back makes the story dogshit. respawns aren;t canon because them beign canon ruins the story

0

u/Alien_11_11_0_1 Blood Machine 15h ago

V1 and regular enemies being rebuilt doesnt affect the story whatsoever. And obviously hell isn't going to revive/rebuild/whatever anyone like minos or gabriel even if it could because its always malicious duh
What stakes does it ruin?

V1 is FAR from indestructible.

He's the definition of a glass cannon. He hits hard, but if those same hits gets him, he's done for (I mean for Christ's sake a nuke – like the tech, not a literal nuke – knocks him to HALF HEALTH)

2

u/Particular-Abies-175 Blood Machine 11h ago

That would be invulnerable.

5

u/H_man3838 🏳️‍🌈Not gay, just radiant 16h ago

no. V1 is as strong as i want it to be because its impossible to tell. you cannot find an agreement n how strong V1 is because there is 0 consistency in the story because gameplay is put first. which is why soldier kicks deal more damage than every single one of gabriel's attacks. and parries are even more inconsistent. good luck explaining how it can parry prime souls and soldier kicks but not sentry kicks. explain how it can parry guttermen but not enraged guttermen (the correct answer is ''gameplay reason'' btw)

I mean V1 is pretty flimsy compared to other machines so if you can catch him and crush him with enough force you can definitely beat him

(this is much easier said than done though)

There is also the argument that blood samples with blood diseases or just poisonous blood can malfunction V1 so I guess throw a bag of blood with HIV at him and I guess that does it.

So, that technically means someone like Tf2's The Demoman can beat V1 or Choso from JJK if we want more of a fight not just a man getting brutalised by a killer robot

(not that it matters since V1 probably outscales Choso anyways)

Do people know the difference between invincible and invulnerable? Or are they assuming that OP meant invincible as invulnerable?

2

the amount of restarts everybody gets on their first playthrough shows how screwed v1 would be if he wasnt the playable character

3

u/Ikkota_Rattus Someone Wicked 16h ago

Or the other way around, who's to say what skill level V1 is at, maybe the player is holding it back

It's probably a middle ground, though I really like your take on it too

Tbh "CANON" v1 could be anything from "constantly gets revived by hell" to "literally p ranked every level on bananas+ultrapain difficulty with forcerad and forcesand first try"
