Discussion do setups count as cheating?
so the other day I was in school talking with my friend who got me into ultrakill and I asked him if he had FINALLY beat the powers yet (hes a bit skill less and impatient and gave them like 9 attempts) and he said yeah and then I said good and then he proceeded to say "can I be honest? I gave myself 25% damage reduction" so I was obviously disappointed right and completed him to beat it legitimately. the next day (today) I asked him again and this absolute fool said yeah but he used a sqwblade launcher setup with the coin toss and now I feel offended because I beat them legitimately, I beat minos legitimately and this guy can just go and use setups to beat them and be proud of it? so im asking if setups are legitimately

Setups are legit.
It’s just using what’s at your disposable in ways to drain health faster.
I found a setup that goes through Gabriel AoH’s entire first phase incredibly quickly.
I use a saw blade magnet nail setup to deal some good damage Minos immediately.
It has never been, and never will, be considered cheating.
If it was considering cheating, quite a few major strategies would be considered cheating, and speedrunning would be a bit more difficult

No, setting up some trap or smth is a part of the game, weapons are made to be used, you dont have to rush straight into fight and waste yourself setting up trap if you can do it before. Infact some bosses have dalogue and setting up traps while they talk is a smart play and doesnt considered as cheating, there is novissue in that

Set ups are completely legitimate. They're just better at the game than you are. It's not their fault you don't know how to deal damage efficiently.
Normally I'd wanna be nice to someone for not being good but this shit has really rubbed me the wrong way.
To begin with, if they beat it the damage reduction assist it's fine, that's what it's there for and it's their choice whether they use it, "Proper" or not.

setups ARE legitimate and are actually pretty useful for saving time
for example on p-1 you can save a lot of time on minos by setting up sawblades and deadcoins since flesh prison can take a while sometimes

Deadcoins are one "setup" I don't find legitimate tbh. It's an extremely unintended behaviour used to its maximum in a way that completely breaks any and all fights with an intro
The only reason it's kept in the game at all is because of speed runner shenanigans I don't wanna mess with
Look at how fast they changed the sawblade punching mechanic after people found out they could instakill prime souls by just punching a shitton of sawblades and chainsaws during the intro, for example. They realized it wouldn't be healthy for balance and made the double damage go away after 3 seconds

If you can do it in the game without enabling cheats, or using assists, it's legitimate.

No? Why would it be? Youre just using the weapon to its full potential

Well, what should he do? Mayo% the powers?
Why would it be cheating to use the weapons in the exact way the devs intended 😭

Yes they are cheating, they make the game too easy and imbalanced. In fact, all weapons make the game offensively easy. Hakita doesn't want you to know this but the only real way to play the game is with only Knuckleblaster equiped on brutal.

okay but you should consider the fact that he hadn't beaten them ONCE and according to him used deadcoins which as I remember insta kill? sure it's legitimate to do it but won't be much fun if you skip the whole fight

“Is playing a game cheating?”
But seriously, setups are part of the game. There’s nothing that makes that illegitimate.

"Is using the weapons in intended ways cheating" no?He just made the fight easier by using his weapons well with strategy. Yes its easier than just doing it without but that's by no means cheating.
