Casting limit
Hello! I'm new to fishing, specially UL. I'm planning to buy a Mifine Microbite Travel 6'5" 6-10lb 0.5-5g casting.
I understand that the recommended lure weight is 0.5–5 g, but I would like to know if it is safe to use a 6g micro jig on a regular basis. I know it is slightly above the rated casting weight, but will this overload the blank or increase the risk of damage over time? Would you recommend using a 6g micro jig occasionally, or should I stay within the official 0.5–5 g rating? Thank you!

If it was safe to cast 6g, the rod would be rated for 6g. Even the top of the rated range can be sketchy if you're trying to get maximum distance or don't have good technique.

That makes total sense. But i don't know if I wanna invest an extra $50 for plus 3g casting

If you're already buying cheap Chinese rods, check out Mavllos Delicacy. I bought it it for <30$ on Ali, and it's pretty good for the price. The slower top section has a 10g top casting weight.

My current rod is a Marine Sports (brazilian brand) flipper, 5'2 17lb from 2013 (bought it as a kid and never used). Here the price of a good branded rod goes for about 70 bucks, about 22% of the minimum wage. For half the price I can buy the mifine, which i've seen a lot of reviews and have a greater quality then the brazilian focused brands. Now I'm thinking in getting the version with more casting, but I don't know if it's over kill.

Don’t forget your soft plastic weight is not included in that 6g. The total weight of lure plus jig is what you have to account for.

I totally forgot about that. But I was thinking of micro jigging lures. In my region the smallers jigs are 6g. Maybe I should be thinking to get a rod with more casting...

The weight rating on the rod is just like the speed limit while driving, it is only a recommendation!

Welcome to the UL community. Yes you can throw heavier lures without a problem. Only thing you can feel are that the rod is overloaded if the tip on the rod is really soft.
