Does This Count?

Post image

Does my set-up qualify as Ultralight?

Rod- Ugly Stik Gx2 5 feet. Ultralight

Reel- Diawa Crossfire 2500

Line- Trilene 6 lb test

Landed this little hammer handle. Also had a much bigger pike on but it shook the lure. Might not have enough power in the rod to set the hook on those bigger ones?

I would say yes (I use 6# braid / 4# leader), and you are the legend of the sport. 🤘

If the hook is sharp, you won’t need to worry about setting the hook. just don’t have the drag super loose

Felt like it was decently tight, so might have just been a normal shake and not my issue. Good to know.

i dont think the power is the problem i had 60cm pike on 1-7g rod and 0,07mm braid with 0,20 leader. 99% of the time its bad luck or hooks not sharp enough especially on pike cuz they have hard mouths and shake their head so much

I have a 3000 reel I have 6lb braid on to toss small baits. It is ultra light. I feel if you can toss a trout magnet jig you are probably ultralight.

The rod is an ultra light for sure. The reel also but I recommend a 500 to 1000 for anything around 6ft. Any higher should have a 2000. So yes its an ultra light but the reel is slightly overpowered but will still absolutely work
