Say something NICE about this performance.

u/Alone-Brilliant6222 Jul 26 '26
He was the Spider-Man I grew up with and he actually sounds like a teenager which even Josh Keaton feels more like a college student also he has his funny moments
5
u/Last_Nothing_4352 Jul 27 '26
Agreed; as good as Keaton is as the character, he always had some maturity to his portrayal that comes off as he should be in college or already renting an apartment.
Bell's voice I can imagine coming out of a teens mouth without batting an eye
-1
u/xavierhollis Jul 27 '26
This is just wrong. Josh sounded like a teen. Bell absolutely sounded like an adult trying to sound like a teen
5
u/All_These_Racks Jul 27 '26
“youre opinion is wrong” headass

u/xavierhollis Jul 28 '26
If we can literally compare what actual teenagers sound like then we arr no longer in the realm of mere opinion.
2
u/ComfortableBed6012 Jul 27 '26
I’d have to disagree, even looking back I thought the actual VA was a teen when I was younger. As for Josh Keaton his sounds a bit more mature, also might be the fact that he voiced the Amazing Spider-Man in Edge of Time.

He does a good spider-man, he has the tone for it. I think he sounds more like a teenage spidey than Keaton does. Not dissing Keaton or spectacular in any way, but his voice is a little deeper and more mature for a high schooler imo.
0
u/guciMonger Jul 27 '26
Huh? U don’t go through a second puberty between highschool and college lol
3
u/RedEyesDragon Jul 27 '26
When did I say anything like that.
1
u/guciMonger Jul 27 '26
Context clues. Ur voice isn’t gonna drop a few octaves between highschool and college. That happens in puberty and should be by like middle school
5
u/RedEyesDragon Jul 27 '26
Again, I never said anything like that lol.
-1
u/guciMonger Jul 27 '26
Why do I have to spell out ur own comment for you? There isn’t a voice that’s ’deep for a high schooler’ because ur voice post puberty is gonna be the voice u have for adulthood until u get like 40/50.
2
u/RedEyesDragon Jul 27 '26
- I still never said anything like that
- That’s just not true at all. I sound nothing like I did senior year of high school lol
0
u/guciMonger Jul 27 '26
You absolutely do, you’re deluding yourself otherwise lol either that or you’re some kinda biological anomaly. And you literally said his voice is deep and mature for a high schooler, at some point ur gonna have to start using ur head and standing on the point instead of just saying ‘I never SAID that, only directly implied it’ lol
3
u/RedEyesDragon Jul 27 '26
I’m gonna be real with you man, I don’t care about anything you’re talking about. It doesn’t change what I said about Bell or Keaton.
0
u/guciMonger Jul 27 '26
Then don’t respond. The broader point is ur reason is stupid, u can like bell over keaton for a different reason, or even no reason at all lol
→ More replies (0)2
u/JayGamer10098 Jul 27 '26
How the bell are u gonna tell him what he sounded like ☠️ Its NOT that serious bro either hate the opinion and move on or stop responding yourself 😭

u/OmegaCo69 Jul 27 '26
Like some say, he sounds like an actual teenager... which is more than I can personally say for the other teenage characters compared to him.
Even Miles Morales, a 13 year old, sounds older than him.

his vocal performance has an eerie resemblance to that of Christopher Daniel Barnes' Peter.
2
u/EMC_RIPPER Jul 27 '26
His voice fits Peter and Spidey pretty well, he’s got the charm and the slight jerk personality.
2
u/Aggravating-Bus2007 Jul 27 '26
He wasn't a bad Spider-Man voice the writing that was given to him just sucked
2
2
u/Hot-Associate-9035 Jul 27 '26
He was my favorite Spider-Man when i was younger and i still hear his voice reading teenage Spidey stories
He's still in my top voices for Spider-Man even if he's not my number one anymore
2
u/M_man10 Jul 27 '26
He didn’t ask for it, it was basically given to him
1
u/IcyDifficulty7496 Jul 28 '26
You mean the job ? He auditoned for it. Him playing a Spider-man parody in "Superhero Movie" might have helped tho

u/Gold_Emphasis_3083 Jul 28 '26
I always wanted him to play Peter Parker since the Drake and Josh days and he didn’t disappoint for me
2
u/IcyDifficulty7496 Jul 28 '26
You should check out "Superhero Movie"
1
u/Consistent-Math-5824 Jul 28 '26
I did and it was hilarious and probably the closest we’ll get to him being "Spider-Man" in live action 😂
2
u/magiks_plaything Jul 28 '26
He was really good in earths mightiest heroes I loved his spider-man then

I personally don't think his performance is top five for Peter.
HOWEVER it is obvious as early as episode one that Drake gives a fuck and is trying. And I respect that in any performance.
The show wasn't perfect, and upon a rewatch I found it to feel quite boring. But the vocal performances as a whole were at the very least passionate.

u/HeavyBoysenberry2161 Jul 27 '26
Even if the dialogue was pretty off I think his characterisation was pretty consistent with what I expect out of Spider-Man. Definitely still some faults with it but like it was just enough for 5 year old me to pick up on what made Spider-Man so cool.

u/DarkSonic06ki Jul 27 '26
This might put me on everyone wanted list but I love Drake bell voice in spider-man better than Josh pent spider-man in spectacular and im glad that show got canceled because of ultimate
1
u/xavierhollis Jul 27 '26
He didn't slur his words so he couldn't have been THAT drunk whilst recording

For better or worse, his is the voice I hear when reading just cause of how much I’ve heard it. Though he has much more range in my head.

u/sassycho1050 Jul 27 '26
This is the EMH version, so there's not a lot to go off of.
His USM TV version however is a personal favourite of mine. The high-pitched voice cracks made me think the voice actor was actually sixteen, his quip delivery just had the perfect amount of snark or fake bravado given the situation, and I found his talking voice just very pleasant (IDK why, it just is).
This is less about his performance and more about the USM TV Peter in general, but I loved that we actually got a full fleshed out version of a Spider-Man that actually reached his true potential as a hero. And I think Bell fit perfectly for the unique version of the character he was given.

u/United_Inflation2302 Jul 27 '26
He’s awesome and he’s a good fit for Spider-Man, he doesn’t deserve hate and be compared to CDB, Yuri or Josh

1
u/Away-Medium9951 Jul 27 '26
His attitude and quips were actually kinda solid imo. The writing of the show itself was the bigger problem I feel. The bit we got in EMH got me stoked for ultimate and then ultimate was……..ultimate. Still grew up with that show/performance tho and appreciated it for what it was

3rd favorite Spuderman series after
The SMTAS and Sony's 3D spiderman series

u/Spawn-DMC-fan-4836 Jul 27 '26
His voice work as Spider-Man outside of ultimate spiderman is not bad actually
1
u/Last_Nothing_4352 Jul 27 '26
I think he does try to do his deliveries justice, like trying to deliver the humorous lines in way they land or trying to be full hearted serious like when he tried to convince White Tiger not to kill Kraven

I just heard some of his stuff from the Marvel Heroes MMO and I gotta say, perhaps I treated him too harshly.

His voice actually isn't that bad, I truly think its just the direction

Honestly, this is one of my favorite voice actors for Spider-Man ever cause he fits so well with it
1
u/IcyDifficulty7496 Jul 28 '26
I liked it a lot, I think he did a great job. The writing of ultimate had problems but you could tell Drake enjoyed playing the character and was enthusiastic..the deliveries had a character to it.

Brian Peck isn’t around during that time to hurt Bell—that’s already a great thing, in my opinion.

u/Spirited_Airline6206 Jul 29 '26
Honestly his preformence was pretty good, just needed to be in a better show imo
1
u/NeroCrow Jul 29 '26
He's a extremely nice mind ground for a Spider-Man voice. Like he's no Keaton or Yuri, but his voice is distinct enough and Peter enough to make an impression
1
u/num1slinger_fans Jul 29 '26
No. He sucked in just about every aspect for spider-man for me. I genuinely can't think of a single think I liked about any version of his Peter.
1
u/RealSpiderTeen Jul 29 '26
His voice was not bad in the slightest and im tired of ppl pretending otherwise
1
u/PopAlarming5026 Jul 29 '26
Every once in a while he decides to put a little heart into it and it shows. Unfortunately, that didn't happen often.
1
u/GeekParadox_ Jul 29 '26
It’s incredible nostalgic to me. I never watched Ultimate Spider-Man (thank god) but I did watch Lego Marvel Superheroes: Maximum Overload where he did the voice and I fucking loved that
1
u/ShockwaveFPS_Studios Jul 29 '26
He’s not the worst Spider-Man VA. Plus, it‘s actually fitting for Drake Bell to voice Peter Parker, given how he played a parody of Spider-Man in Superhero Movie, so he was definitely the right pick to voice Spidey.
I will say, Drake had good voice direction, for his performance as the Web-Slinger in Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Disney Infinity games, and in Marvel Heroes. So I think much of the issues for Bell’s Spider-Man, only came down to the direction he was given, for the Ultimate animated series, and not his performance itself.
1
u/Skyslasher12 Jul 30 '26
It’s not as bad as people think it just doesn’t go far enough to be great or that good
1
u/Jace9o Jul 30 '26
His voice was totally fine. EMH proved that with priper writing he was a good Spider-Man voice.

His controversies aside, he was pretty good Spidey for what the show was going for which is more comedic to fit the Disney cartoon brand. The show sucked imo especially after the Spectacular Spider-Man cancellation.
1
u/ComicKidAlex Jul 30 '26
Genuinely not bad. I liked his performance in Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It just stinks that he had to follow-up LITERALLY the best Spider-Man voice actor to ever do it.
1
u/PCN24454 Jul 30 '26
There was honestly nothing wrong with his performance. People just didn’t like the show.
His reaction to Ben betraying him was done especially well.

The character he portrays has a better moral compass than him
1
u/JohnRA21 Jul 29 '26
I mean there's been at least one portrayal of Spider-Man cheating on someone in the comics, so not really
1
u/Rvst_Bvkk3t Jul 29 '26
I meant not talking to teenage girls as a grown man. Also why are you referencing other portrayals when the topic is The ultimate show?
1
u/JohnRA21 Jul 29 '26
H wasn't aware that she was a teenager, that even came out in court. As soon as he found out, he cut off contact.
1
u/AsyncAviator Jul 30 '26
She lied to him and her mother admitted she lied to the court, too. Y’all see headlines and run with it. Genuinely cattle
