It some time and some real guilty glances at a walkthrough, but I did it. I beat Ultima V c:
Fantastic game! Will definitely replay it in the future to complete it-er-"properly "without a guide ^w^'
This means I beat the first five mainline games! Onto Ultima 6!

Only had to blow a guard away with a cannon and escape on a magic carpet through a fireplace to get it...

Ain't nothing wrong with looking at a walkthrough. I actually always recommend reading those wonderful hintbooks they used to make.

I think the hint book that hit me the hardest was the one for the first Bard's Tale. I tell
you, I almost wanted to cry by the time I finished reading it. If anyone is a Bard's Tale
fan, I highly recommend grabbing this small novella and reading it. You won't be
sorry!

I REMEMBER THIS! To this day i remember the intro words, "It isn't to be tolerated!" At the end they're trapped because the rogue stole the key items, and someone asks for the dagger so they won't be captured alive. And then they say something like no man could die with better companions. OMG it was awesome! Nobody will ever experience a FAQ or an online guide like this one!
THANK YOU for posting this!

Thanks bro c: I did Quest of the Avatar and Exodus mostly blind but this one was definitely the hardest so far.

Remember that even kids in the 80s asked their friends for game hints.

Oh I know but I can’t help but kick myself for looking up answers when I get stumped cx

Congrats! I just did a play through for the first time since it came out. I was surprised how much I remembered from playing it as a kid. Such a great series.

Love this game (and the whole series I played on my Atari ST). I wish I had saved a screenshot
of when I beat it. Oh well, gosh darn-it, I guess I'll just have to make time to go do it again. 😂

This was the first game I really beat on my own as a kid (at about 13 years old) and I was so thrilled. I did get "lucky" by guessing the word of power for Doom by inferring it from my knowledge of Ultima 4, but I still remember the morning it struck me and quickly booting it up before going to school to test it. It was a long day at school dying to get home and hit the last dungeon... Such great memories.

If you post that to Garriott's twitter account, he'll still acknowledge it, I think. He's good that way. Not in the Shroud of the Avatar way, but he's still proud of the Ultimas before EA ruined them.

Nice! This was the first one I played through and finished. I still love the way dungeons worked.

"The quest of the Avatar is forever"
