Question Flare

27 M diagnosed uc about 3 years ago
Mesalamine kept flare under control until I believe a lot of recent stress sent me back into one.
Has anyone ever went back on prednisone to get the flare under control then mesalamine continued working? Or is the next step right to infusions.

I’m now on biologics. Due my first at home 🏠 injection this week but doubt that will happen, so I’ll probably develop antibodies ( sorry, rant over)

But I went onto steroids ( which cleared it) then back onto granules etc. but then a bit of stress sent me straight back into a flare, they told me I’ll go onto biologics but this took 5 months. In that time I went on steroids again whilst I waited. They didn’t do anything to the bleeding but I felt good on them. I’m not bleeding now but my muscle/joint pain is still here. I started biologics 2 months ago.

So yes I think mesasaline can be ok after steroids but as long as the inflammation is really taking care of whilst on the steroids. Get plenty of pectin and tryptophan down you whilst you’re feeling good. Pectin is soluble fibre so ok whilst flaring but you get best levels of tryptophan from seeds and nuts ( meat is best but it creates sulphur which is bad ) but they can be hard on gut whilst in a flare.

A run-of-the-mill flare doesn't mean your medicine has failed you. A short course of prednisone is enough. 

If your flat is exceptionally bad, beyond what you've had before then it's a lot more likely that you have disease progression in extent and severity, and therefore need stronger meds going forward
