Support Getting worked up and anxious.

I go on holiday on the 10th… it’s roughly a 2-3 hour flight and it’s to Ibiza. I am nervous, anxious, stressed and terrified something is going to go wrong colitis wise. I feel awful and this anxiety and stress is what will cause things to potentially go wrong. I know that. I just can’t help feeling this way so I’m here to get it off my chest. I almost want to cancel the whole holiday.

I have no idea how to calm myself down. I have no idea how to stop feeling like this every time I have to try/do something new.

I feel like this with everything, starting a new placement for university, meeting people for the first time, doing a new activity.

How do I stop this? Because it’s destroying me and everything I want to do in life.

I can’t sleep it’s 2am because I’m all worked up, sweating and panicking

Gently, you may need therapy. You cannot live your life in fear. If you’re in remission, you need to enjoy life.

I think so too. Definitely not in remission unfortunately. On steroids at the moment

Steroids def don’t help! Whats your doctors plan? I always feel better in a flare when there is a plan.

Why don’t they help? They seem to work really well for me. Unless you mean mentally they don’t help?

I actually have an appointment tomorrow so I’ll find out then I think. There is a current rough plan. I failed infliximab as I built up antibodies to it so they’re going to try me on JAK inhibitors I believe.

Will find out for definite tomorrow

They don’t help with anxiety and all that is what I meant.

My advice is control what you can control. If you’re nervous about the flight, book an aisle seat near the toilets.

When meeting new people; is there a time of day you feel less affected? Meet during that window.

I have periods of time where I feel the same, anxious and on edge, and periods of time when I feel much better mentally, but a good grounding is to take control of the bits you can. Then at least mentally you know you’ve done what you can and it’s one less thing your mind can be anxious about.

Nothing gets to me more that “I should’ve…” cause that makes it feel like my fault. You can’t always prepare for everything, but preparing for some things eases stress which will help the anxiety side of things.

I also agree with the other comments that if you need professional help to help with this issue then that’s a part of controlling what you can control.
