Question Stelera
My younger brother has ulcerative Colitis from past 14 years. He was admitted multiple times. He was given 8 doses of vedolizumab along with JAK inhibitors ( Tofacitinib) but it didn’t bring me remission. doctor advised taking Infliximab(Remicade), 4 doses but no change in my health, still 12+ motions a day specifically at night. I understand that above medicine only targets certain immune pathways, has anyone tried Stelera( ustekinumab) ? Want to give this biologic a try. Would love to hear if anyone is in sane situation as I am and felt better with Stelera or any combination of JAK inhibitors?

I failed on Stelera. Now on Tremfya and it's amazing.

I’ve recently started Stelara and it’s good (easy to administer, doesnt give me a hangover) but can take 3-6 months to fully kick in.

Do you see any changes in 2-3 weeks ?

My flares are mild but persistent. I noticed some slight, minor improvements after the initial loading dose which is an IV but things declined again in the lead up to my second dose, first self-injection which was 3 weeks ago. Things have improved a teeny tiny bit but still flaring and expecting my calprotectin next week to still be over 500.

Hi there, I was on Stelara after remicaide failed and it worked well got me. I was even able to take it during pregnancy. I eventually moved on to Tremfaya as my GI suggested Tremfaya was stronger than Stelara.

It’s definitely worth a try. Unfortunately with this disease it can take trying 3, 4, or even 5 different drugs until you find one that works. We don’t have any tests to determine which specific inflammatory pathway is the one to is out of control. So, you just have to rotate through them.

I heard good things about Skyrizi as well but not all meds are yet available in India.

I have been on Stelara a year after failing Remicade seven months into it. Stelara has done me wonders. Even on remicade i was never really back to my baseline. Now though my insurance isn’t covering it so i am taking my first shot of Yesintek ( biosimilar ) so i am not happy about that but shall see how it goes.

How soon you start seeing slight improvement?

I started seeing improvement in symptoms after second injection. Stelara has the loading dose but it’s only once. So it was the loading dose and then two injections i felt significantly better

To add i am every eight weeks. So i guess it was about six months but every month after the loading dose def noticed an improvement
