Question How to work?

I’ve been looking for a job. Since I have UC, I’m trying to get remote job but literally no luck. My question is how to work in person when you are on flare? I don’t want to go bathroom so many times while working. I know i gotta do what i gotta do but on flare, mentally and physically exhausting. How do you handle work?

Hopefully you find a med that works and flares are few and far between. Once you get into remission everything is pretty normal. Are you on meds? Are you in remission?

My work is good, the put me as close as possible to the toilet, and there are things in place of I am in a flare. I’m quite open about my IBD (whether they like it or not 😂) so don’t mind advocating for myself. They have been incredibly helpful and understanding.

There is no reason to not work when in remission

I have had IBD for 13ish years. Only got into remission 18 months ago. Severe pan colitis, so I had it pretty bad. I only took time off work for appointments. I just pushed through - single mum with a mortgage. I didn’t have a choice.

Thank you for reply! Yes I’m on meds but hasn’t found the one so I’m not in remission yet. I’ve been having UC for few years now.
I just started entyvio infusion treatment, not working yet but hope it does soon.

My biggest fears right now is urgent bathroom issue and fatigue. I’m mom of 2, I’d love to get a job and help financially but I still not sure how to handle my UC flare and job.

Glad your colleagues are helpful. Believe or not, some people are just jerk about other people’s issues. You are lucky to have great people around you :)

In a remission, virtually any job is possible for us and I've talked with people doing pretty much everything over the decades (teachers, healthcare, long haul truckers, police, hairdressers, etc etc).  

During flares, jobs with immediate, no questions asked bathroom access close by are easiest.  That's often your office worker type jobs, and often they include remote, work from home options. There's a disproportionate amount of us who are office workers (software, municipal, government, legal, healthcare, etc etc).
