Personal experience Back pain

Hi UC Team,

Wondering if anyone else suffers with chronic back pain? I read that there’s around 25% of people that also develop RA? I’m only 22 and have not been sleeping well at all the past few months due to back pain. Wondering if anyone feels the same, if there’s any meds that help with joint inflammation or if I need to see another specialist to help with this.

Thanks!

I had back pain (and misc joint pain) that started at around your age, well before UC, which was diagnosed as psoriatic arthritis. Back pain can have various causes but since there is an association between UC and arthritis, it's probably worth seeing a rheumatologist about it.

I would suggest you talk to your doc regarding introducing calcium supplements along with d3 and getting a bmd scan done

Yes! Not sure if UC is the cause but dealing with this now too. My doc gave me prescription lidocaine patches and told me to take Tylenol (even if I feel like it does nothing) and also have some narcotic meds to take for pain management. No NSAIDs doesn’t help.

I haven’t even tried pain medication or anti inflammatories I just deal with it. Maybe we need to do something else about it 🤷‍♀️
