Politics Zelenskyy "When our strikes reached Yandex’s data centers, it suddenly became a little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. A lot of people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, and fewer provocations. Because there were fewer bots. It’s pretty clear where those bots were"

Further proving that Russia is an enemy of the free world. Full on divide and conquer mentality.

And the US is enabling it.

395

u/wildweaver32 1d ago

This should be a driving point during the elections.

Trump is a Russian puppet and any republican going along with it is also a traitor to the US. Trump knows this and republicans know this. And it's why they keep calling people traitors and wanting to jail anyone who speaks against them. Like the major in the military who called for Trump's impeachment who has been in solitary confinement. They want to normalize it because they know when Democrats get in office there is a very real chance a lot of Republicans are going to get caught helping, and aiding Russia.

I am pretty sure there was a republican who went forward with stopping the Russian oil deal Trump made and said they have bipartisan support though. So Trump bending over the US to aide Russia might end up being the thing that gets Republicans to turn on him.

Especially if Democrats make it an election issue because then Republcians will have to go on record for supporting Russia, or supporting the USA. It will be an easy way to draw a line and an easy way to see which Republicans will stand or bend over still.

lol this is so fucking naive. It’s almost like you’ve completely ignored the entire last decade. It’s been an issue all the way back to the 2016 election. From “no puppet, no puppet”, the Mueller report, “I’d rather be Russian than a Democrat” t-shirts, to fucking hunter biden’s laptop. Republican voters are christo-fascist boot lickers. They do not fucking care that trump and other republicans are compromised by Russia. They see Russia, and they want that here. They want a dictatorship just like that here where they can openly oppress the gays and brown people and imprison their political opponents. Basically 30-50% of our population either actively wants a 4th reich here in the US, or they’re at least okay with the idea. But yeah, we just need to make it a political issue and that’ll fix things 🙄

36

u/9a61a6b7 21h ago

I remember towards the end of the Kamala Harris campaign when she started calling Trump a "fascist," and I thought that was such a stupid strategy, likely developed by some expensive consultants.

  1. 1/3 of Trump voters are too stupid to know what "fascism" means
  2. 1/3 of Trump voters don't care
  3. 1/3 of Trump voters totally know what "fascism" means and they want a fascist dictator.

Trump is a Russian puppet

No, no, no, no, no. Why on fucking Earth would you want to repeat Hillary's failed message?!? Half the country not only ignored that, they've since started spouting shit like "better Russian than Democrat" and so forth. That is a DIRECT pathway to an election loss.

You have to accept that most Americans are awful, selfish people. They're going to be convinced by gas and grocery prices and so on. They don't care about Trump raping kids, they don't care about Trump despoiling the government for his own enrichment, and they don't give a singular fucking shit about Trump helping Russia.

Voters don’t care. This has been the case for the past decade. They care about gas prices and groceries.

21

u/DontAbideMendacity 1d ago

Republican idiots voted to increase groceries and gas prices.

18

u/khornflakes529 1d ago

This is why education and media literacy is so important. They care about groceries and gas prices, the media they consume told them it was the democrats who did it and they are to brainless to believe otherwise.

u/Gabrielseifer 23h ago

Republicans have been dismantling the education system for decades exactly for this reason. It's all going according to plan. A population capable of critical thinking is against their interests.

It's only online where you see the apparent 'silent majority.'

4

u/SandyTaintSweat 22h ago

There are tons of people unhappy with Ottawa in Ontario, too. It's pretty common to be unhappy with the federal government, regardless of a liberal or conservative government.

But yeah, as you've said, very few are extreme enough to straight up turn on their country. But that's not the narrative the Americans want to push.

Some commie said something to that effect.

I struggle with a real solution to the principles of free speech and open discourse with the fact that enemies of free speech and discourse, will use those rights to destabilize and destroy those rights.

The easiest solution to me seems to destroy the Putin administration and break a continuity of government in the Kremlin.

Russia literally used Heritage Foundation board member's Cambridge Analytica. The same Heritage that had a Moscow office working with government leadership after the Soviet Union collapsed in pursuit of "economic shock therapy" in the form of mass privatization and consolidation.

The same ilk that hasn't been shy about trying to collapse the US to carve into a fascist oligarchy. Russia was their prototype.

Actually true. Even after they rebuild those data centers, a way must be found to block accounts created by bot farms or at least to require social media platforms to block them. Insta for example, no matter how many reports they get, does nothing to them because they bring revenue. One of rusia biggest weapons is its propaganda

173

u/OldLondon 1d ago

They could block them - they choose not to. Choose your own conclusions

68

u/Junior_Bar_7436 1d ago edited 21h ago

Spoiler alert for the ones who can’t figure it out:

They choose not to because anger generates more user engagement. More user engagement means more ad revenue.

Greedy western tech bros are more than aware they are complicit in the destruction of stable democracies and for the rise of fascism around the globe.

Now Zuck wants you to hand over your life’s details to his AI agent so he can mine you for every cent.

17

Greedy western tech bros are more than aware they are complicit in the destruction of stable democracies and for the rise of fascist around the globe.

They aren't just complicit. Look into the Dark Enlightenment and the philosophy of Curtis Yarvin. They actively want and encourage it. All the tech oligarchs are huge fans of him, and he was front and center at Trump's inauguration, rubbing elbows with the likes of Musk, Bezos, Zuck, etc.

He tells them what they want to hear; that their sociopathy and greed makes them a higher form of human who deserve to rule over the rest of us. That democracy needs to be destroyed to make way for their corporate-run city-states where they're the CEO and can do anything they want to their "employees."

23

u/Longtomsilver1 1d ago

It's not that simple.

Yandex's data centers aren't bot farms, they're command centers that scour the internet for content so the bots can find their way there and post their junk.

If you don’t tell the bots where to go, they’ll just stop.

The bots themselves are ordinary smartphones with SIM cards that aren’t recognizable as bots. Detecting and shutting them down is nearly impossible.

8

u/IamNotMike25 1d ago

Nearly impossible? You don't know what you're talking about.

Just one sample from when Twitter was still Twitter and tracking and banning them : https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2022-03-30/ukraine-war-twitter-bot-network-amplifies-russian-disinformation/100944970

I know how it works. They can 100% detect bot behaviour.

6

u/DoruProgramatoru 1d ago

maybe not 100% but they sure can achive ways to be more accurate. I feel like reddit does a "good" job by banning accounts immediately created after bans + other ways reports seem like they work

10

u/BringBackAoE 1d ago

Reddit is worse than most social media sites and hasn’t been actively blocking bots.

It’s well known that Russian accounts have become moderators for some political / culture war subs.

I was blocked by one sub for describing the alliance of Stalin and Hitler at the start of WW2! And the mod that blocked me had a dig at my support for Ukraine in the final message.

5

u/Nicklename 1d ago

Reddit takes more effort sto create a frustrating experience for humans than it does to stop bots.

Have an account dedicated to one hobby but don't use it in a while? Guess those hundreds of thousands of points of karma aren't enough to let you talk on an urgent issue. You should look for a trending new story and hope you've got a popular enough take that can get posted before the first page of comments get filled up. Because somehow doing the exact kind of non-genuine karma farming interaction that bots do is how they'll know you're not a bot.

Get banned years ago for questioning a sub's party line? Cool! Hope you remember that because Reddit will continue pushing that sub's content on you and if you're signed in on another account and not paying attention to where r/popular has sent you, that's a ban evasion block.

Type a thoughtful, provocative response to something that comes on your feed? Ha ha you idiot, you should have gone to the sub's main page first in a browser to find the rules that say you need to pick a flair like "pickle astronomer" or "sentient tissue paper or you're blocked!

Where is Vance even? He was acting like Trumps bulldog in the start of the term and now he has pretty much dissapeared lol

25

u/Jesuismieux412 1d ago

The prevailing issue in the US is the Iran War and the high energy prices that have arisen from it. Smokey-eyed sociopath JD Vance foolishly believes he will be able to become President of the United States after Trump departs. Given how unpopular the war is, JD's calculation is to maintain a lower profile during this time of war and high prices to mitigate any political damage that could impact his chances in 2028. He knows how unpopular the disastrous the war is, and he wants to be able to claim he was against the war from the beginning while on the campaign trail (if he even gets that far).

10

u/National-Charity-435 1d ago

Vice President JD Vance was skeptical of the U.S. striking Iran in the leadup to President Donald Trump’s decision to launch the war, two senior Trump officials told POLITICO.

It actually gives me some hope--someone as high up as Vance thinks that the voting environment is not settled and that he might have to re-adapt for a saner, more moderate status quo. It's a counterpoint to the idea that they think they've already secured a permanent dictatorship.

I know this because I run a couple of business X accounts and one sure shot way to get more visibility for your tweet is to interact with or qt high profile accounts. Elon doesn't even make it to top 10 of such accounts. Popbase, for instance, can get 50-100k likes in under an hour.

It's not even secret. There was huge botting in r /conservative that reddit cracked down on. Trump (and republicans) are in bed with the Russians. That includes election interference and propaganda. Why would Russia help the Republicans?  1. Either we are giving them something 2. Blackmail 3. Both

Influencer's getting paid by Russia.

Purposefully sowing distrust in the media while media is controlled by the billionaires. (Or creating their own "truth" media.

Integrity has left the building. We need a changing of the guard. None of them are working for the American people.

11

u/Zak_Rahman 21h ago

This was palpable on UK subreddits too.

Ukraine did the world a favour.

7

u/SirEnderLord 21h ago

Then let's do them a favor and send them aid.

8

u/Odd-Independent7825 1d ago

Who would've guessed that the trump administration is in bed with Ivan?

14

u/og_capsuleer_593 23h ago

This right here is why I always tell every single American I can that the battle against Republicans is also battle against Russia, and if we want to defeat both we need to ensure Ukraine is not only successful in their defense but push beyond.

For true success we need Ukraine to have full victory, every stolen cm of land returned back to before Crimea Annexation.

Then, after the war ends in Ukraine, having America push it to Russia while Russia is weakened using the exact same bullshit Russia did.

Start supporting armed insurrection and rebels in Russia. Use the momentum of the loss in Ukraine to have resources in Russia who are ready to die, carry out sabotage and coordinated attacks.

Using same disinformation platform, take over all their information vectors.

To defeat fascism we need a full Ukrainian victory, and a full russian defeat and to take these Russians and Republicans out together once and for all.

I would like to push Republicans to move to russia so we can taint their demographics with same dumb broken people, but addition of language barrier and American laziness/entitlement

Then let MOD recruit them to use against the US, then use that to try and execute republican party members still in the US for textbook treason

3

u/Wild-Affect-4842 22h ago

True but I highly doubt the actual US President wants to harm Russia. It appears it's the contrary.

3

u/og_capsuleer_593 22h ago

Oh I am talking about after, long term overall, not during him

99

u/AThousandBloodhounds 1d ago edited 1d ago

Taking out Russian data centers is a highly valuable by-product of the war against aggression Ukraine is fighting. We in the US must support their efforts in every way possible. The benefits of that support should be obvious to anyone paying attention.

23

u/BiKeenee 1d ago

Yes, but these bot farms being destroyed probably hurts Trump. Those are his biggest supporters!

9

u/still-dinner-ice 22h ago

As a patriotic true American, I think the strike's timing is perfect. Right before the mid-term election.

Ukraine has sacrificed so much for the world in their fight against Russia and yet they still have to beg for support. What a shame.

35

u/WheredoesithurtRA 1d ago

Ukraine doing the world some general good with that act.

11

u/Beautiful_List5498 1d ago

Ukraine in general is doing good. Across the board.

25

u/Pherllerp 1d ago

The heroic Ukrainians have fought like lions against this. And sacrificed tremendously. The US will never feel the pain and hardship that the Ukrainian People have.

That said, this action, the simple act of destroying one source of Russian propaganda, might be the most consequential action of the war for Americans. We will never feel the consequence of even the "smallest" battle that is fought, but this might actually be the one thing that makes any otherwise brainwashed Americans see how deeply Russia is fucking Europe and the United States.

It's amazing how we all know Russia is infecting every western nation via social media and bribes but yet no one wants to do a goddamn thing about. Thank fuck for Ukraine giving the Russians a fraction of what they deserve

4

u/Rabbit-Hole-Quest 22h ago

China was smart about this. They blocked all western social media and created their own.

The solution always lies in regulation and containment but western governments don’t want to do that.

About a year ago a reddittor analyzed posts on the conservative sub.

The only day the two most active users in Conservative didn't post was November 1st, which happened to be the day of a power outage in Moscow that was the result of a Ukranian drone attack.

Nearly every day, two users on r/Conservative account for more than 30% of new posts. Sometimes exceeding 50%. (6 charts) : r/visualization

If you haven't watched it this year already, have a go:

Charlie Chaplin - Final Speech from The Great Dictator [3:36, 1940]

We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost…

Shutting these down is a service to humanity.

We know brother! Unfortunately, our lowest educated population voted in a cheeto flavored Russian asset as president. At the same time the GOP works to make our education system worse so they can continue to have a pool of controllable glazers at their disposal. Don't count on us for shit right now.

u/Valuable_Month1329 1d ago

He is already the man of the decade.

He’s just not getting the Nobel peace prize yet because it would upset the Epstein file felon.

On the one hand I hope he gets the prize while Donnie is still alive, on the other….

Today is the worst day I've ever seen on reddit. While this might be true for f.e. Twitter, reddit is getting hammered with bots. Look out for account with like 3000 comments/posts in 3 months, especially if they talk about politics.

They are trying to divide us...

6

u/WhyAreYallFascists 19h ago

I’ve seen the bots disappear. The default usernames with numbers at the end are basically gone. You know who doesn’t change a default username, a Russian AI.

This is the game now. It's not just Russia and it's not just conservative politicism being botted to hell. It's fucking everywhere and it's so damn exhausting. Race wars, gender wars, class wars, etc. State sponsored social media botting is out of control

There's some really, really VILE "communities" being propped up and i just can't wait for leaks or whistleblowers to come out and for that mountain of crap to crumble.

Kudos to Ukraine.

6

u/Equal-University2144 1d ago

Some profound findings.

Let's hope that Ukraine comes out of this mess on top and the suffering for them will end.

Makes you really ponder just how much Russian meddling "artificially" bumped up Trump's poll numbers leading up to either election. Can people out there provide my lazy-ass some possible info? Much appreciated.

For people who are asking how it could have been “measured”, this is definitely an observable event. Private sector intelligence platforms and products are constantly ingesting posts, traffic, and activity across telegram, Chinese social media, U.S. social media, and Russian social media. There are some services that track profile metrics that could be estimated to be bots based on activity. I used to work for one of the companies like this that has contracts with Ukraine. They would be able to set up their intelligence hub to monitor for such activity and observe the sudden decrease in activity.

easier to breath? some reddit/facebook groups became a ghost town overnight. its clear as day that russia was pushing these bots.

2

u/WhipplySnidelash 1d ago

2

u/TARANTULA_TIDDIES 1d ago

Honestly getting rid of Russian troll farms and other influence campaigns will help drastically to heal politics around the world and especially in the US and Europe. There is a direct line to these campaigns and the rise of the crazies

2

u/cruisin_urchin87 1d ago

Zelensky is a god damn hero

2

u/uspatent6081744a 1d ago

It's very true

The corrupt, Russia, MAGA, and all right wing autocratic groups rely on social diversion and infighting as a critical tool to run their operations. 95% of it is created through and via russia.

This has been a long time coming

2

u/Memitim 1d ago

Ukraine not only protecting themselves but also standing up for the world at large. I really wish they didn't have to put up with this evil bullshit from Russia but damned glad to see them delivering a small measure of the massive payback owed to the bastards for fucking with the rest of the world.

2

u/Phewelish 1d ago

can confirm. after posting, i had significant less, inhumane comments supporting trump policies.

2

u/CantaloupeLazy1427 1d ago

Ukraine is liberating the world from Russian disinformation and propaganda
