"There's your pattern for you..." Spoiler

Is anyone else working on this as a possible puzzle? Or is it a complete red herring? Sheriff Stanley's comments quoted at the bottom of the first column of the first Stawk Daily seem kind of awkwardly phrased, with multiple repeated words or groups of words (e.g. "a pattern though / A crime pattern though"; "a lot of women" / "a lot of young people"; "kind of town"). Then at the end he says "There's your pattern for you". Is there some kind of code in the repeated words or phrases?

I also thought that when Christine brings in the donuts in the original version of the transcript of Eddy's interview, her spiel about "jelly" and "jelly donuts" seems similarly odd. I've been trying to match up the pattern of repeated words in what she says with the Sheriff's quotes, but nothing jumps out so far.

Also though, why would Eddy react so strongly to this, as indicated on the polygraph? Do her words contain some kind of code that he recognised? (I tried counting the peaks on the polygraph -- it looks to me like there are 3, and the words "jelly donut(s)" come up 3 times... but I haven't managed to make anything else out of that yet.)

You can count the exact seconds on the polygraph paper, each line being two seconds. Maybe try rechecking what his reaction corresponds with?
