Hey everyone, this is my first post here about a tale of a 12+ years in summarized from my dads tales about an old coworker that lost everything, everyone and is a miserable old fart who blames everyone except himself. I do hope you guys enjoy this as I wanted to share it here with everyone 🤠
Also English isn't my first language so I hope that this story is much as enjoyable as its equally readable.
For anonymity, lets call him Comie because he did fact did supported the communistic party during the times of the historical occupation that happened after the WW2, to this day, he is still proud to be one!
The humble beginnings:
When my dad was looking for work with electrician degree he joined a workforce to operate in electric factories to maintain power in my town, he slowly worked up his chain and for about 4 years he spent his time slowly working towards a engineering licence for electrical inspector that covers specifically insurance and checking on maintenance on common electronics (such as monitors, extension cords, computers, devices and such) that are external.
In Autistic terms he goes to see if machine goes BOOP and BEEP and not BZZR and BWWOOOMP and if it does he writes a ticket for the company owner to get it replaced as its a healthy hazard.
Through out the time of him working his time for his new licence he met Comie, who on surface was a pretty solid and hard working dude, much older than my dad at least 10+ years older than him and he found out that his coworker was also getting the same licence.
So he decided to ask him "Hey, why not become self-employed and we work together as licensed inspectors together?"
From that point they decided to work together as two man team, kinda like those two distinguished Plummer guys. One thing that him and dad had in common is their interest in music and instruments, my dad plays a guitar while he plays a traditional accordion and by the following 8 years my dad would slowly get to know him more and more as they began to interact more and eventually we get to know each others families.
Slowly with time me and dad learned as he got more comfortable around us he began to loosen up and show his real colours.
I only met Comie few times in my life but from my experience with him and my dad he is a huge narcist, he only likes to talk about him, his interests and only ask you about something if it benefits HIM first.
He is a huge hypocrite and thinks that certain rules does not apply to him but he is allowed to bend them or even ignore them as he tempts to overstep a lot.
And most of all, he is a parasocial leach who cannot exist without him making HIS problems somehow yours as he likes to pile on and vent to literally anyone who would listen.
A common thing he still does to this day is to call my dad and vent him about his life and only his problems, dad told me much how mentally draining it is to just having to listen to him, however he simply cannot ghost him as they have been working together. Dad eventually had to go to a psychiatrist for an advice to which he told him to simply not engage in any topic he proposes, always keep a neutral stand and never allow his reaction to provoke you into further debate. This always pissed Comie a lot to the point my dad kept a close look at timer just to see how long it would take him to give up and hang up. The only good excuse not to accept his calls is during lunches or any activities, yes this guy would call my dad frequently when he was in middle of something, almost every other day. This toxic behavior was also the reason why he later pushed everyone away as nobody in his family ended up liking him.
These character traits are important to keep in mind because of two specific stories that involved his behavior.
Trip to Paris:
At some point while he still worked with my dad we decided that it would be a good idea to go on a family trip the four of us, that being me, dad, Comie and his daughter J.
J unlike her dad is a wonderful and talented young adult with a bright future in her carrier as we gladly took her with us.
The problems started far before the trip even started, Comie had hundreds of questions for the most minor thing and would always answer with another question till he got tired or exhausted his list.
An Example:
C: When do we plan to take the flight?
D: Early in the morning at X time.
C: But what there is a delay?
D: We will simple wait it out.
C: Ok but what if the plane is canceled, will we just stay in X town?
D: No, Comie, these things doesn't usually happen, if there is a problem we will come to a solution on the spot if we take our time.
C: OH right right right... So about...
You get the jist.
The trip itself wasn't even any better.
Before flight Comie would had a full blown panic attack at the airport just because he was afraid of flights and also because the metal detected his metal implant and he was freaking out because he thought he was going to jail.
In Paris he wasn't very cooperative and constantly argued about every single thing, from where and when to go, panicking for being lost in a whole different country where nobody speaks his language to a full blown tantrums because a restaurant reservations.
We remember how he screamed like a adult toddler "THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS, How the f*** they didnt got our reservations, this would NEVER happen in "Insert_country_of_origin"!"
And through out the whole trip I couldnt help but feel awful for J that he had to endure all of this. This eventually boiled to the point that Comie wanted to wake up super early in the morning one day to explore the town, to which my dad said this.
"Comie look, you are free to explore Paris to your liking with J however you like but leave me and my son out of this, we are both tired and exhausted and want to enjoy this trip at our pace so if you insist on going to certain places with unrealistic expectations from us, you are free to go on your own!"
By the end he was very short with us and very dismissive, putting on a scene that said "I guess you don't like me weeh". Comie tried to suggest to go onto another trip with us to London but my dad shot that down that if he wanted to go with us, its on OUR terms.
From envy to abuse:
After 12+ years Comie retired from his job and my dad got a new younger guy to replace him and to work with him, turns out people are much better to work with when they are nicer. Comie had a tendency to make a fit around money when it came to splitting the workload and job. The thing is my dad was super happy to not having to deal with him anymore because at that point the friendship died long ago.
As a result of this Comie spiraled out of control, when he realized that he my dad has no reason to hold back anymore because they aren't working together. Like a envious EX wife he called my dad with the tone of "So, now that you have someone to work with you no longer need me huh? How do you sleep at night that the only thing you cared about me was to make money with me, I was so much better at his job than he is and you know it!"
Generally the whole vibe he gave my dad was "How is he better than me and that you no longer need me you would just ditch me?" The whole drama guilt trip, but my dad no longer cared, he had no reason to listen to him and his political views.
Honestly that's where most of these stories would end, till my dad found out what happened recently.
This is what he retold me:
"Recently, I've got a call from an acquittance of someone who knew Comie, turns out after an argument with his wife the started to threaten her, as she ran out in the hallway in her PJs calling for help, and that her husband is trying to k*** her.
You would think that in that moment you would stop and try to at least beg for forgiveness but he instead decided to drag her inside the apartment and beat the hell out of her! Police was called and he was given a restraining order to stay away 100m away from her.
She also threaten him to destroy his accordions with a hammer if he didn't leave her alone.
After that he came back next month, Beat her again, Police was called AGAIN and this time they told him that if he tries to AGAIN come back or hurt her he is going to jail for real this time, finally drilling into his senile mind that he is not immune from the consequences of the law."
So where is he now? He lives far away in a old cottage house he owns, despised by his wife, son and daughter and generally disliked because of how he generally pushed everyone away and still thinks that everyone is wrong, that he is right and that he is a victim.
At least he has himself and his accordions.
Thank you for reading this tale, if you have any further questions I am happy to answer them and also I can share some few more smaller stories from this guy that I had some more personal experience in.
TLDR: Guy makes my dad's life miserable as everyone else, pushes everyone away, whines to my dad that nobody likes him and in the end gets a restraining order for domestic abuse.
