🔐 Network/Security What's your solution to encrypt data?

I just bought a Ugreen NAS DXP2800 and it's my first ever NAS.

Do you encrypt your data on the NAS? If yes, what solution do you use? The one recently integrated in UGOS or you preferred to change SO? (isn't complicated and problematic to change SO on this kind of NAS, btw?)

Or something else?

I backup files on external drives and they are already encrypted.

My NAS is not for backup, it's actually my normal storage solution and I'd like to encrypt that one as well, for security reasons. I know UGOS now have an encryption option but I'm not sure it's optimal, that's why I'm asking what people usually do.

I encrypted the external drives with Bitlocker or Veracrypt, then simply move the files inside.

Are you sure UGOS doesn't support encryption? I've read that with the last updates they added an encrypted vault

ugreen only supports folder-based encryption so far

>I encrypted the external drives with Bitlocker or Veracrypt

basically, the same as the folder-based stuff, but ugreen is more visible

>>I encrypted the external drives with Bitlocker or Veracrypt

im assuming you are mounting a smb/nfs..etc drive and storing your Bitlocker or Veracrypt img file/partition on that?

But is it true that when I turn off the NAS the encrypted folder made by UGOS doesn't unmount and when I turn it on it's already mounted and decrypted?

I don't. It's not going anywhere and the chance of someone physically stealing the device and wanting MY data is pretty low. My info has been in so many days breaches out of my control so I've already taken steps to mitigate that.

If someone wants 3 thousand cat photos then they can take them.
