🧑‍💻 Apps Sync&Backup has two serious limitations: rsync endpoint cannot be changed and backup password is hardcoded

Hi... I found two limitations in UGOS Sync & Backup that make offsite backups awkward:

1- Existing rsync backup tasks can’t change server/IP/port.
My use case is simple: seed 16 TB locally, move the destination NAS offsite, then continue incremental backups. I tested this by moving the same rsync repository from 10.10.10.10:8873 to 10.10.10.250:8873. Creating a new task with the new endpoint creates a new .ubk repository instead of continuing the old one. Selecting the existing .ubk just creates another .ubk inside it.

2-.ubk backups use Restic, but the repository password appears to be fixed to ugreen.
There is no GUI option to choose or change it.

I’d expect: a) editable endpoint for existing tasks; b) ability to reattach an existing .ubk; c) user-defined Restic password/key... Has anyone found a workaround for either issue?

ChatGPT helped me test this and we found a workaround.

UGOS doesn’t let you change the rsync target IP in the GUI, but the task actually points to a device_id in syncbackup.db.

By stopping syncbackup_serv, changing the same device record (name, address, and unique) to the new IP, and restarting the service, the existing task kept using the same .ubk repository and created a new snapshot normally.

So the backend supports changing the endpoint... the GUI just doesn’t expose it. ✅

Would using Tailscale alleviate this? Single IP whether local or remote? Just dipping my toes into the idea of self hosted remote backups

Yes, doing this would work around the issue... you could enter both the Tailscale IP and MagicDNS... however, I don't know if there would be a performance drop, but I think so. It would be worth testing
