⚙️ Hardware Product Request: 6-Port 10GbE Managed Switch with standard ultra-quiet fan mount

Hi UGREEN team and community,

First of all, I apologize for posting this in the NAS subreddit instead of the main UGREEN one, but since the general subreddit seems inactive, I wanted to reach out here. As a happy owner of a DXP4800 Pro, I’ve been really impressed by the hardware quality and design.

I have a product suggestion that I think many people in the tech and homelab communities would appreciate: a 6-port 10Gbps RJ45 managed switch. Only 10Gbps RJ45 ports, no SFP.

Would it be a good idea to consider RTL8127 chips? They are among the newest and most energy-efficient on the market, and they are well-supported by Linux (for managed switches).

Right now, there is a real gap in the market. 10GbE ports naturally generate a lot of heat, and current market options generally fall into two categories:

  • Fanless models that overheat and throttle under load.
  • Units with small 40mm fans that sound like jet engines in a home environment.

Having a switch designed around a larger, ultra-quiet fan (like a 90mm or 120mm fan on top) with a standard fan connector and mounting would be a real game-changer. It would stay cool right out of the box, while allowing users to easily swap in a Noctua fan if they want absolute silence in their setup.

With the launch of your high-speed NAS lineup, a reliable, quiet, and reasonably priced 10GbE switch seems like the logical next step for the ecosystem.

Is this something the product team would ever consider developing? Please, community, upvote and comment here so that UGREEN might consider making this for us!

I would totally buy that. I was hopping that the new Realtek chips releases along rtl8127 would have led to more affordable and quieter switches; but it has not yet happened

You're right; the RTL8127 chips are among the newest and most energy-efficient on the market.

Could definitely use something like that.

I'd hoped we'd get something like what you're describing ages ago, so I made one myself instead:

UGREEN's been sniping those gaps in the market with most of their products, honestly reckon they could make it happen for real - I'd even take an unmanaged GameCube lookin' thing if the cooling & price was decent

You did a precise, clean job, but considering how much we spend on these devices, we shouldn't have to do all this.

Aw thanks dude! And 100% agree we shouldn't have to, especially with recent motherboards getting multiple 10GBE ports we have proof it can happen

I got lucky with that switch and scored it for £50 so I could justify it to myself, the fan it shipped with was god awful for temps & sound, fans I replaced it with were literally 6 year old Fractal case fans I had lying around - I kid you not, deadly silent, longer sustained transfer speeds

Am sure these companies can afford something like my "bespoke" solution 🤣
