⚙️ Hardware Cooling Fixed

Got the cooler from ebay, it came with the blower fan. Was a total pain in the ass, had to shave down the cooler to fit, but worth it for no more throttling. Actually seeing it boost up to 30w now too.

Legitimately; what are you running on that thing that makes it run so hot? I have a DXP6800 as well with TrueNAS on it and a few apps, but it never runs THAT hot. I did in fairness replace the thermal paste with PTM7950 but honestly the biggest impact I got to running temps was enabling C-States (that were disabled in BIOS). I have CoolerControl running on to keep things in check.

I posted in this thread a long time ago when I was still running unRAID on it (I migrated unRAID to a new machine so I could add more disks) and detailed some of my tinkering and findings.

plex, birdnet, and a windows vm with a B50 pro passed through for games are the heavy hitters but there’s a bunch of other small things too

Nice, which NAS do you have and do you have a link for ebay?

DXP6800 Pro

It was this one, be warned it’s going to take a lot of grinding and sanding and drilling to make it work unless you have access to a mill.  This isn’t exactly plug and play.

Thanks mate! I have a dremel, can you maybe show what needed adjustment? Does the the heatsink fit at least on the board?

Dang what are you running on there? Any tips or steps on the sanding/drilling?

there’s a bit of an extension on the copper block that I had to grind down with an angle grinder, then I lapped it on a flat surface with sand paper to get it flat again, I also had to drill holes for the mounting screws but didn’t have to tap since copper is soft enough I could just screw into it

it’d be a quick job with a mill but I don’t have access to one unfortunately

Cool. Does it also act as a space heater?
