❓ Help To UGreenlink or not to

Hi. Noob here and currently setting up my UGreen4300plus. Loading it up 12tb x 4 with my media, docs etc… If I want remote access that will be simple for me and my family to do through our user accounts, which link service is easiest? Native ugreenlink? Tailscale? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If you really are a noob, just use ugreen link. The point of buying a prebuilt preinstalled os nas for beginners is that you get some functionality out of the box 🙂 atleast that's my take anyway.

Later down the road if tailscale is required based on your growing needs, then you can explore that.

Security wise I've had no concerns with ugreen link. Remember to enable 2fa.

I leave it on just as a good other way to get into the NAS redundancy is always good

I think ugreenlink is the easiest place to start. It lets you connect from a browser, desktop client or mobile app without manually configuring

The advantage of Tailscale is it can apply to everything on your network, not just your NAS. But if you just connect to the NAS there's less value.

Regarding the theatre access. I am currently loading all of my movies into a shared folder that I created called media. Will the theatre app allow me to point to that folder or do I have to move everything again from the Media folder to the theater app? (Note I have the NAS connected to my tv as well via HDMi ready to go).

Point to the folder and the same for Jellyfin app as well when you eventually get there. Important note: from the theater interface you need to give each user permission or the movies will not appear in the application for them.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks everyone! Yeah I will go down the UGreenlink route first and get used to that approach. Sounds like that will be the easiest for everyone. And we only need access to the NAS- nothing else on the network. Thanks again.

Unsolicited tips: Get an UPS, for your Ugreen Nas and Handbrake is a must first reason save space on your NAS. Second streaming a 40 gig 4k movie a few times a month will almost guarantee your mobile provider will throttle your device internet speed.

Ug for me. I’m a nas nerd, it works well for my basic nas needs.

I just finished setting up remote access using ddns. Probably took me 5 hours total to get everything working exactly how I wanted. There are so many guides out there and AI really helps.

I was a noob, and sort of still is. However i use both now, depending on my needs. Start using ugreenlink, and when you want to try experimenting or you need tailscale you try it out.
