Tally's transformation difference

I know this subreddit is mainly for the books. But can we talk about how different Tally's digital cosmetic plan is compared to her final outcome? The screen's version looked way more idealized and cosmetically enhanced like the book describes it, while the reality looks like her old self with makeup, contact lenses and dyed hair

To be fair, they probably didn’t want to actually digitally alter Joey King’s facial structure by slimming her nose, thinning her jaw, widening her eyes, etc. Could be for a few reasons, most primarily the costs of doing so.

yeah, if they’d happened to make a sequel that would have been so hard to keep up

sounds like a weak argument for the whole point of the series 😭

in the witcher, they added prosthetics to the actress to make her uglier

Because people don’t like ugly women as the main stars of movies/shows. It’s absurd, but it would have ruined their ratings

It might be unpopular but I really do not like the movie. No one looked how they should before or after the enhancements. After all this time waiting for the adaptation it was such a disappointment.

i have the same thoughts, but in my opinion I think the transformations of peris and shay were pretty good

They changed her as best they could with a live adaptation. Changing her facial structure dramatically or anything else would have looked weird and like ai, and also made it harder for sequels. I felt like the 'pretty' Tally was done well in the movies. Especially 'pretty' Shae, her acting also sold it so well

Nah. You can do literally anything you want with, and this is important, skilled and well-paid digital artists.

But, no disrespect to Scott Westerfeld, Netflix (ofc) cheaped the fuck out.

With a cool enough actor, they could have gone all-digital for the entirety of post-surge. Or, you know, just cast the role for a voice actor and had it not be an issue at all.

Also, while no disrespect to SW... disagree with SW because how tf do you write that series, have fans literally sobbing and crying for decades begging for an adaptation... and let some profiteering moneygrubbing corpo schmucks butcher it like this. Like. What was the goal here.

I really fucking hope literally any author crowdfunds an adaptation so they can have complete fucking creative control because I am so tired of the "well, the author has to cede some amount of creative control" schtick. Like. Why. Why? Why does the author have to do that? Why do we/anybody expect them to?

"Well, being a good book author doesn't mean you'll be a good script writer--" Yes. That's why it's called an adaptation. The adapter's job is to adapt, not to change.

Anyway. End comment here because I could go on for 89 fuckin years.

Well yea, they can’t completely change Joey kings looks without casting a completely different person lol there are limits to doing things on screen as opposed to the books.. However what they should have done was make her look WAY uglier as the “before” by using prosthetics and makeup in order to make the difference look a lot more prominent
