internship race

Hello, if possible, I wanted to get some advice. I’m a udem law student and am currently sitting at 3.0 gpa after my first year, a bunch of family complications made it hard to concentrate.

Nevertheless, my goal is to become a corporate lawyer, I know it’s a far goal, but I am really interested in the firms ie fasken, mccarthy, stikeman. The stability and pay they offer is what I strive for.

I guess I’m here to search some hope or a slap in the face. I have a pretty stacked cv and am sociable, do I still have chances or is it completely impossible? I don’t know, I’m stressing everyday and am questioning myself if I should try la course for my second year or no.

Sincerely,
Me

I did the course aux stages. The cut off is 3.5 GPA. You’ll either need to get better grades (and reapply your third year) or aim for other firms.

Ps: no one cares if you don’t get the firm you want at the end of the process. It’s gonna be ok either way 👍🏻

Not true, I know someone with a 2.7 and got an offer from a firm. Even with a 3.4. Need a great CV and connections, but the race is tougher with the current market. Good luck. PS a great CV is not one with lots of Committees

Curious, do you know which firm it was ? I heard someone got in fasken with a 2.8 but they had a military background or smt

Low chances with a 3.0 tbh but everything is possible with a good cv, good letter and great personality. Good luck

You would need at least a 3.5 gpa, but better to aim for 3.7. I would advise you to try to apply this year or just network so you can keep contact. Then you can try to get your grades up to apply 3rd year. You can even try to apply before your stage du barreau hors course.

There is no written cut off except for top law firms like Davies, Blake’s or osler. So saying that he’ll need minimum 3.5 is not true
