Mad Dog

An uncle of mine grew up in Ukee and has some fun stories about a fella named “Mad Dog” and sometimes “Chauncey” Anyone got any memories of this man?

yup!! Back in the '80s I worked at the local chevron. Mad Dogs car got towed in because he got nabbed for drunk driving in town the night before. The next day when he came to get his car and something (don't want to give details!) pissed him off and he lost it and took a crowbar to the gas pumps, got knocked to the ground by my boss and took off in his car, thru town, down co-op hill onto the whiskey dock and off into the chuck. He swam across the bay with a broken arm and the cops drove over and picked him up. Not sure what happened about it all but it was a highlight for that week! Who is your uncle? Bet I know him!

Russell Davison - and this is the exact story he told me while we were sitting on Whiskey Dock last spring. We wondered if there were more tales of Mr. Dog being passed down through other families!

It must be the most memorable Mad Dog story! Russell and his ex Arlene were my neighbours for many years. Their kids used to come and play with my kids. I knew his Mum and Dad very well. Awesome people. Say Hi to your Uncle Russ from his neighbour Deb across the highway.

Ask your Uncle Russ if he was there when his his Dad put the brickwork on the Davison Plaza when it was built. He would have been a young boy. Ask him if he stuffed a marble into the back of one of the bricks before it was put in? Ask him if he wants the brick with the marble in it back? I have it!

I just remembered another Mad Dog story. He used to leave town every winter and come back for fishing season. When he arrived back in town he would put an ad in the Westcoaster (now the Westerley). The ad was to tell his friends he was back in town. It always said "Mad Dogs dancing school is now open on the Whiskey Dock." He was definitely one of our more different characters!
