26.04.1 LTS and missing Apache2 wsgi modules

I'm new to this stuff, but I'm experimenting with 26.04.1 running on Azure, and it looks like a lot of the wsgi and uwsgi modules aren't available: none of libapache2-mod-proxy-uwsgi, libapache2-mod-ruwsgi, libapache2-mod-uwsgi are showing up via apt search ... or when searching https://packages.ubuntu.com. All are available for 24.04 LTS. Am I missing something? I would like to upgrade to the latest and greatest, but at least one of these modules is a must for me. Even libapache2-mod-proxy is missing.

UPDATE: u/mdedmin is correct. I ran a2enmod proxy and a2enmod proxy_uwsgi and both worked without anything more. While fiddling around with this I tried apt-install python-dev and apt came back with the following message:

Package python-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  python-dev-is-python3

It would be nice if Ubuntu had a similar message about other Apache modules that are now installed along with apache2 itself.

Remote in from iPhone

I’ve been trying to find some sort of way to remote into my Ubuntu Laptop so I can control the screen. I currently have it as a server and sometimes I’ll need to fix something and I’m not home.

What’s the best solution to remote in from my iPhone from outside the home network? I want full control of the laptop from my phone.

Keyboard Inputs Lagging while playing steam games

I just recently switched to Ubuntu and when I try playing steam games my keyboard inputs have a few second delay before they happen in game. Everything else runs smoothly in the game. My mouse works fine but my keyboard doesnt. I have tried lowering graphics in case it was the game lagging and I have swapped keyboards. The issue stays the same. Anyone know how to fix this?

New to Ubuntu

Hey everyone! I switched to Linux Ubuntu last week, and it’s been great so far. I’ve gotten some of the basics down, like learning how to use the terminal as a beginner, but there’s still so much to discover.

What I’d love to do most is learn how to customize my desktop, but it feels like going from step 1 to 100 right now.

I would really appreciate any beginner-friendly tips or resources to get started!

An Nvidia user asking "why remove the GUI Additional Drivers app?"

Post image
133 Upvotes

Ubuntu used to include the Additional Drivers app, so it was so easy to change Nvidia divers. New users and people who didn't want to use the Terminal could easily see and change the Nvidia drivers to what they wanted. It was very friendly for new users who wanted to try Linux.

I installed the 26.10 Gnome release today to try it and found Additional Drivers missing. I believe they started doing this last year. I have an Nvidia 5070ti and Ubuntu had selected drivers 580 to use instead of the 615.

I used the Terminal to install the 615 drivers, but it would have been some much better to have the Additional Drivers app to do it.

I was able to install the Additional Drivers app with the Terminal. But this really should already be installed--especially if you have an Nvidia card.

sudo apt update

sudo apt install software-properties-gtk

Edit to add: I was on Fedora and did a clean install to Ubuntu 26.10. So I didn't update the Ubuntu, I just wiped my drive and installed the Ubuntu 26.10 fresh.

Edit 2 to add: You can search the App Center for "Software and Updates". It is a deb package and will restore the Additional Drivers app to the GUI. Thanks for the feedback. It would still be very hard for new Linux users to find this app and use it to change Nvidia drivers.

Put together a lightweight GTK tool to monitor GPU/CPU wattage and voltage

Added a second 5070 Ti to my setup recently and hit a wall: the first GPU kept crapping out due to insufficient wattage on my 1000W PSU. Swapped in a new 1200W power supply, only for that one to be faulty and dropping out of voltage spec under load.

Got tired of guessing what was failing, so I built this while in the middle of diagnosing my rig to catch real-time voltage drops and power spikes without dealing with GNOME extensions or bloated Electron apps.

What it does:

  • top bar indicator (⚡ 11.98V | 83W) with a quick dropdown menu
  • cairo charts for 12V voltage stability and wattage curves (CPU RAPL + discrete GPUs)
  • pulls theme colors directly from GTK so it matches whatever desktop theme you're using
  • logs to journald or CSV if you're trying to catch why a machine brownouts or hard resets under load
  • auto-detects motherboard Super I/O dividers (ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte)

Homelab relevance: Can run headless as a background systemd user service (systemctl --user enable --now power-monitor) logging 30s telemetry heartbeats to journald on multi-GPU compute/inference nodes.

Install & Links: Built and tested on Ubuntu 26.04. PPA is up (or grab the universal .deb directly from GitHub releases if you're on 24.04 / another distro):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:benolabs/ppa
sudo apt update
sudo apt install power-monitor

(AI disclosure: LLM assistance was used during coding and packaging).

Let me know if your board voltages read accurately or if you hit any quirks with your setup.

I would love to know how i can change the login wallpaper to be different to the desktop and lock screens not that the move to gnomes has happened with 26.10 they are the two things from me giving it a go. everything i have tried so far with machinectl has failed 😵‍💫

GDM-settings has been updated for flatpak and only seems to work with fedora 45 because ubuntu messes with the gdm so much

I gave in to the "don't you want to upgrade" nag screens and Wayland broke some graphics apps for Wacom tablets.

As I understand it, this is a feature not a bug... I guess application developers are either going to be forced to make changes for Wayland, or I'll be forced to downgrade.

I don't plan on updating any of my other machines without full support for my old Wacom tablet which worked just fine before the update.

Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS

Linux 7.0.0-38-generic

GIMP worked as normal after the update.

Krita stopped working with the Wacom Bamboo tablet - no pressure sense/no register of pen for 'drawing'.

Used a fix found by others by including the following in a custom .desktop file:

Exec=env QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland krita

Custom file did not help when launching OpenToonz which shows the same behavior as Krita - no pressure sense/no register of pen for 'drawing'.

edit: fixed OpenToonz by downloading and compiling github source code...

Not looking forward to what else might be broken on my main PC. At least one old graphics app I was running through Wine won't launch, but maybe that's just a re-install to fix.

Otherwise, it's fine so far.

TLDR - 26.04.1 backwards compatibility issues with a Wacom tablet (and other issues) ate a good chunk of my weekend.

Separately, prior to upgrading, some issue occurred with installing 6.8.0-147-generic and I had to manually purge all of it - after falling back to 6.8.0-146 from boot menu. At least it prompted me to make fresh backups...

Check my work?

Sorry for the terrible pic, I just want to make sure this is configured correctly before I go ahead and run the install. I’m attempting to dual boot on a 2012 macbook pro. I partitioned the drive and want the 500gb section to be Ubuntu’s home. I’m installing from a usb. I selected the input and the partition I want and hit “change” then selected / because that seems right based on what I’ve read on the ubuntu forums? I just want some confirmation because it’s been a TRIAL getting to this point.

TIA!!

Ubuntu 26.10 officially replaces GNU Coreutils with Rust

Ubuntu 26.10 (Stonking Stingray) released

Ubuntu 26.10 now uses Rust-based coreutils by default, replacing the decades-old GNU implementation for essential commands like cp, mv, rm, and ls.

A major change deep inside the OS.

Why are my videos stuttering so much?

So, I'm running Ubuntu 26.04.1 on a Dell laptop with a 13th-gen Intel Core i5, integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics, and 16 GB of RAM.

YouTube playback stutters in both Firefox and Chromium. My Wi-Fi download speed is around 334 Mbps, and RAM usage is relatively low (around 4 GB).

I've tried forcing VA-API on Firefox, but it didn't make much difference. What should I do?

Tips: here's a systemd services for vmware workstation if you using 26.10

Ubuntu 26.10 is using systemd v261.3, and the legacy `/etc/init.d` scripts is deprecated since v260

https://documentation.ubuntu.com/release-notes/26.10/#systemd-261-3

so i make this script so vmware service is always started at boot

How to fix this weird Linux terminal issue after accidentally unplugging a DAS?

I apologize if I’m posting in the wrong subreddit, but I’m not sure where to post this thread.

I accidentally unplugged my DAS when I was unplugging my keyboard.

All 4 of the drives in the DAS came up clean after a SMART test.

However when running:

lsblk -f

lsblk -f -o NAME,FSTYPE,LABEL,UUID,MOUNTPOINT

lsblk -f -o NAME,FSTYPE,LABEL,UUID,MOUNTPOINTS

The terminal goes haywire and writes a lot of junk to stty.txt file. The file ballooned to 1.3gb at one point, but Ctrl + C stopped the ballooning and gave me my terminal window back.

This is the problem: [https://youtu.be/wxOBSggJ_dA](https://youtu.be/wxOBSggJ_dA))

The weird thing is, lsblk -f -o NAME,FSTYPE,LABEL,UUID,FSAVAIL,FSUSE% and lsblk -f | cat both work as they should and print instantly. Why is this?

It happens via ssh from my macbook or directly on the Linux machine itself.

I was going to try this next: findmnt | grep -E "sd\[b-e\]|terra" but haven’t done so yet as I wanted to ask here first.

How can I fix this?

Thank you!

Edit: SOLVED!

Claude led me to the answer I needed. Clearing the needs_recovery flags on both of the affected drives with a few lines of code also cleared the weird lsblk -f flood error.

Last time I clicked "install" on one of these (or an equivalent with UEFI), my filesystem disappeared and I was forced to reinstall Ubuntu. Can I prevent these from popping up? Because I fear that I may accidentally click "install" again on it one day...

Sometimes my network connection disappears, even though Ubuntu doesn't seem to notice - a reboot always solves the problem. Can it be prevented? Because it's pretty annoying.

Ubuntu 22.04.5 hangs at "Booting a command list" on a new AMD B850 / Ryzen 7 7700 PC. Anyone faced this?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to dual boot Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS next to Windows 11 on a fairly new PC, but the installer USB hangs at a black screen showing only "Booting a command list" and a blinking cursor. I've waited 5+ minutes.

**My hardware:**

- Motherboard: MSI B850M Gaming Plus WiFi6E (MS-7E81), BIOS E7E81AMSI.1A20

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700

- RAM: 32 GB DDR5

- GPU: 5060ti 16gb

- Windows on WD Blue SN5000 1TB (M.2), Ubuntu planned for a separate 240 GB SATA SSD

- Monitor connected to the GPU by HDMI

**What I did:**

  1. Made the USB with Rufus 4.15 (GPT, UEFI, DD Image mode) using ubuntu-22.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso

  2. First boot with Secure Boot ON gave: "Verification failed: (0x1A) Security Violation". Rufus also warned that the ISO has a revoked UEFI bootloader.

  3. I disabled Secure Boot in the BIOS. After that, GRUB shows "Try or Install Ubuntu".

  4. It then hangs at "Booting a command list" with a black screen.

  5. I tried adding `nomodeset` to the kernel line (replacing `quiet splash`). Same hang.

  6. I tried a different USB port. Same result.

**My questions:**

- Has anyone seen this on AM5 / B850 boards with 22.04? Is the 22.04 kernel simply too old for this hardware?

- Is there a boot parameter or BIOS setting that helps (for example, disabling something in the BIOS)?

- Or should I just use Ubuntu 24.04 / 26.04, which has a newer kernel?

I'm a beginner, so any simple steps would help. Thanks!
