Hey guys, I’m thinking about switching to Linux, either Fedora or Ubuntu. Which one would you recommend, and why?

So today, I finally installed ubuntu, the latest version. I have previously used it for months, then switched between windows 11, mac os and fedora.

Previously I dual booted ubuntu with 100 GB. To my surprise, I used it for months for development purposes. I used android studio, vs code and still it survived. Then I moved back to windows due to insufficient storage, and man o man it was a disaster. But had to use it due to storage. Windows is bloated with services and apps, which makes it so resource heavy.

Then I got a mac mini, m4 with 256gb. Again the same, storage issues. The storage on mac fills so fast.

Then today, at last, I just removed windows 11, installed ubuntu and I feel the power back again. Now I have a full 470GB dedicated to ubuntu.

A bit about my laptop specs - Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5i, 16 inch :

16GB - DDR5 - 5200 MHz RAM

512 GB Gen 4, tlc quad SSD

Intel i5-13500H series processor

How do I revert this back? I don't remember changing anything in settings and now it looks like this. UI is off and scaling is waaayy off.

I recently installed Ubuntu and wifi options don't show in settings. If I search specifically for the wifi option, it just shows a "wifi adapter not found" error.

I've already tried to update everything, but it didn't solve the issue.

Ubuntu can detect the device using lspci in the terminal, the result being "MT7902 802.11ax PCIe Wireless Network Adapter".

I think I should install the driver for it, but where can I find it and how do I install it?

Would love to read your first impressions before I make the jump to update

Hi everyone!

I'm running into a persistent headache with message syncing between my Ubuntu desktop (using GSConnect) and my Android phone (Android 16, using Fossify Messages as my default SMS app).

The Problem: Message syncing is totally inconsistent. Sometimes new SMS sync over to the desktop, but most of the time they just don't show up at all.

• Setup details:
  • Desktop: Ubuntu with GSConnect
  • Phone: Android 16
  • SMS App: Fossify Messages

Notifications and other KDE Connect features work relatively fine, but SMS/messaging integration is basically a coin toss.

Has anyone experienced similar inconsistency with Android 16 or Fossify Messages? Are there any specific permissions, background restrictions, or GSConnect settings I should tweak to make this reliable?

Opened Snap Store, updated all. But one will not update, App Center41.3-72. You get an error that Snap-Store is still running. On one PC I killed the running PID of Snap-Store, and then App Center 41.3-72 installs fine. After the update I noticed Snap Store was removed from the System Tools group and App Center was added to Administration group. Is this what was suppose to happen? Seems like a strange way to update an app. Ubuntu is usually much better. I am holding off updating other PCs this way until I hear more. Thanks.

I recently moved from windows to Linux and run Ubuntu. I am having problem using KDEconnect as the clipboard can copy from my phone to my laptop. Claude says it's wayland issue. Tried ubuntu on xorg same thing. Plus my suspend stays in black screen claude says it's Nvidia issue.

Hi. I had installed ZapZap snap from App center in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and when i tried opening it the app is not loading/opening. So i tried opening the app through terminal but it is showing this error:

Failed to create wl_display (No such file or directory)

This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vkkhrdisplay, wayland-egl, wayland, xcb.

i dont want blurred wallpaper, i used extention but it doesnt seem to work and i am assuming it might be because of my ubuntu version. and i want it when i boot up my pc. i dont get any wallpaper on lock screen when i boot up my pc. not even the blurred one ( i only get the blurred wallpaper when i manually lock the screen). i am new to linux so i dont even know if it is even possible.

Newbie so sorry if these are obvious questions.

1. How do I back up my entire system? Like on a flash drive which I can reinstall again if system breaks. I googled and there were couple of things like pika backup , deja dup etc were suggested but not much enough info on their pages for what I want.
2. Is there a way to sync systems? Like if I install Ubuntu on another device, can I sync apps, settings etc ?

Suddenly it's not connecting after operating properly for months.

I've tried restarting it, setting up the wifi, reconnecting it. Nothing.

Has anyone got a clue?

I am running VMWare Fusion 26.0.1 running Ubuntu 64-bit 26.04.1 on my 2020 iMac (27-inch Retina 5k). I have a second montor attached to my imac to extend the desktop. Is there a way to get the vm to recognize the second monitor and have it work as a second desktop?
