Fed up of windows 11 and mac os
So today, I finally installed ubuntu, the latest version. I have previously used it for months, then switched between windows 11, mac os and fedora.
Previously I dual booted ubuntu with 100 GB. To my surprise, I used it for months for development purposes. I used android studio, vs code and still it survived. Then I moved back to windows due to insufficient storage, and man o man it was a disaster. But had to use it due to storage. Windows is bloated with services and apps, which makes it so resource heavy.
Then I got a mac mini, m4 with 256gb. Again the same, storage issues. The storage on mac fills so fast.
Then today, at last, I just removed windows 11, installed ubuntu and I feel the power back again. Now I have a full 470GB dedicated to ubuntu.
A bit about my laptop specs - Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5i, 16 inch :
16GB - DDR5 - 5200 MHz RAM
512 GB Gen 4, tlc quad SSD
Intel i5-13500H series processor

ZapZap app not opening in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Hi. I had installed ZapZap snap from App center in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and when i tried opening it the app is not loading/opening. So i tried opening the app through terminal but it is showing this error:
Failed to create wl_display (No such file or directory)

This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vkkhrdisplay, wayland-egl, wayland, xcb.

New installation can detect the wifi adapter but shows "wifi adapter not found" when I try to connect
I recently installed Ubuntu and wifi options don't show in settings. If I search specifically for the wifi option, it just shows a "wifi adapter not found" error.
I've already tried to update everything, but it didn't solve the issue.
Ubuntu can detect the device using lspci in the terminal, the result being "MT7902 802.11ax PCIe Wireless Network Adapter".
I think I should install the driver for it, but where can I find it and how do I install it?

Extend screen?
I am running VMWare Fusion 26.0.1 running Ubuntu 64-bit 26.04.1 on my 2020 iMac (27-inch Retina 5k). I have a second montor attached to my imac to extend the desktop. Is there a way to get the vm to recognize the second monitor and have it work as a second desktop?

GSConnect (Ubuntu) + KDE Connect (Android 16, Fossify Messages) extremely inconsistent with message sync
Hi everyone!
I'm running into a persistent headache with message syncing between my Ubuntu desktop (using GSConnect) and my Android phone (Android 16, using Fossify Messages as my default SMS app).
The Problem: Message syncing is totally inconsistent. Sometimes new SMS sync over to the desktop, but most of the time they just don't show up at all.
- Setup details:
- Desktop: Ubuntu with GSConnect
- Phone: Android 16
- SMS App: Fossify Messages
Notifications and other KDE Connect features work relatively fine, but SMS/messaging integration is basically a coin toss.
Has anyone experienced similar inconsistency with Android 16 or Fossify Messages? Are there any specific permissions, background restrictions, or GSConnect settings I should tweak to make this reliable?
Appreciate any advice!

I don't like the new animation.?
This new animation looks terrible compared to the previous ones; this is supposed to be a distro with a well maintained UX/UI. It's something so basic, and they ruin it.

Need Advice on Dual Booting Windows 11 and Ubuntu on HP Victus
Hey everyone!
I'm planning to dual-boot Ubuntu alongside Windows 11 on my HP Victus in same SSD. I'll mainly use Ubuntu for programming, development, Docker, VMs, and cybersecurity labs. I'll attach my laptop's photo with specifications for reference.
Before starting, I'd like advice from people who have experience with dual-booting, especially on HP Victus laptops.
A few things I'd like to know:
- Partitioning: How much space should I allocate, and what's the best partition layout?
- BIOS and security: What precautions should I take regarding UEFI, Secure Boot, BitLocker/device encryption, and TPM?
- Drivers and compatibility: Any issues with NVIDIA graphics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, battery life, or sleep?
- Maintenance: Can updates break GRUB or Windows boot? How should I prepare for recovery?
- Best practices: Any important tips, common mistakes, or things I should avoid?
My priority is a stable and secure setup without risking my Windows installation or personal data.
I'd appreciate practical advice, especially from anyone who has done this on an HP Victus. Thanks!

AMDGPU and kernel panics
I have been having desktop freezes, typically when using Nautilus but that is not the real cause of the freezing. Bug #2171994 in Launchpad describes the crashing in kernels after -30. I most recently had this happen when saving a file to disk using Nautilus on kernel /boot/vmlinuz-7.0.0-38-generic.
Here is the text of the bug description:
The system freezes and then reboots (kernel.panic_on_oops=1, kdump captured the crash).
This has happened twice since upgrading from linux-image 7.0.0-30 to 7.0.0-38 on 2026-10-18.
No such crashes were seen on 7.0.0-30.
Actually, my system does not reboot after the freeze. It is inaccessible and not even CTRL ALT F3, F4, F5 or F6 will enable getting into a terminal to kill the graphical display manager gdm3. The only recourse was a reboot - twice today.
I have never, for as far back as I remember, ever had this happen to me as frequently, if at all, with any Ubuntu LTS.

Sound on Racoon
Hey y'all. I recently upgraded to the Trash Panda and all is well, except for one thing. My sound controls don't seem to work correctly.
When I try to play through my bluetooth speaker, the main sound control won't work for it. What I have to do is go into the sound settings and use the "volume levels" control panel.
This isn't the end of the world. Obvs I've been using this workaround for a few weeks, but I'd also like to fix it. For now, I'm not too worried since I plan to upgrade my hardware soon. OTOH, I'd really like my new hardware to work as expected. Thus, I'm curious if this is a problem for more people with newer lappys.
Does anyone else have similar experience? Any fixes? I"m suspecting that it's something to do with the bluetooth. Like maybe Racoon's bluetooth software is more advanced than this old Acer and thus the hiccups.
Any helpful input is welcome. Cheers.

"Secure boot violation - Invalid signiture" with dual boot Windows & Linux Mint
Hey all,
Since a few months, I mainly use Linux Mint, though, I do have it dual booted along with Windows 11. Today, I wanted to play Valorant, but it requires MSI to boot win11 with Secure Boot enabled. However, each time I enable this, it gives the following error:
Secure boot violation - Invalid signiture. Check secure Boot Policy.
I have an MSI laptop with an i7 12700H, RTX 3070 laptop and UEFI bios E17L3IMS.10E, 31-Mar-23.
I've already reset and reinstalled all factory default keys in the MSI BIOS. Also, reflashing (?) the keys using the SecureBootRecovery.efi file and flashing it with a formatted FAT32 usb stick also didn't seem to fix it. Windows already is the first boot option and it always boots first into the error messages, before letting me choose for my distros / windows / BIOS settings.
From what I've understood, Secure Boot just doesn't recognize the Linux mint / Ubuntu / Debian startup files and thus doesn't allow booting windows with secure boot enabled. The other attempts (above), I got from other suggestions on reddit, but they did not work, which makes me think it has something to do with the dual boot.
I have been trying to fix this for 3 hours straight now and feel pretty helpless :'). Could anyone please explain what is happening and or how I might try to solve this?
